We are located in Freiburg in 1679. Freiburg is French for the second time under King Louis XIV and thus the easternmost outpost against the Habsburg lands. King Louis therefore has the town and castle hill developed into a fortress by his master fortress builder Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. In 1679 Vauban is in Freiburg and begins the fortification construction. Centuries later, you can now find Vauban’s old granister (backpack) with many locked boxes and bags, as well as a book with his records of that time.
