Piazza Bra
Piazza Bra is Verona’s grandest stage — an expansive square where daily life unfolds in the shadow of the mighty Arena, the Roman amphitheatre that still hosts opera under the stars. Arena di Verona
The Verona Arena is a Roman amphitheatre built in 30 AD, older than the Colosseum and astonishingly well preserved. Once the stage for gladiators, today it hosts world-class opera beneath the open sky — where Verdi replaces battle cries and candlelight replaces torches. The format turned out to be very convenient: there was no need to book anything in advance, adjust to anyone else’s schedule, or wait. I bought it, opened it, and the tour began right away. I also really enjoyed the narration — calm, engaging, and detailed enough to be informative, but never feeling like a lecture. Thanks to the audio guide, I was able to spend my free time with a better understanding of the city and its history.
