  • A family trip of a lifetime to Sri Lanka

Our trip started with Sam warmly welcoming us at the airport. He took the time to ensure all our needs were met. Chamal our driver for our 10 day trip was wonderful too.

My husband, and I normally drive ourselves around, but have been told that it was helpful to have a driver in Sri Lanka. Once I saw the road conditions and the signage, we definitely felt like we had made the right decision. We found this company through my sister-in-law, who had worked with Sam on a previous visit. So we didn’t even bother vetting any other companies. Sam assigned us to his brother Chamal and Chamal drove us around for about nine days. We customized much of our own trip, but Chamal had his own recommendations, some of which we took. When you spend this much time with somebody on a daily basis, you really get to know them and Chamal was a very lovely person. He was always punctual, always professional, and always courteous. A truly lovely man. He helped us purchase train tickets for the ride to Ella, which can be confusing. Would highly recommend and would definitely seek him out should I return to Sri Lanka.

We highly recommend Sri Lanka tour driver with a car service. It is a family run business. Sam is the owner and his brother Chamal was our driver.  Sam helped us plan our intinerary using whats app phone calls. Sam and Chamal are both fluent in english. Chamal was attentive to our needs and each morning Chamal gave us excursion options and what not to miss along the way. He knows where it is safe to eat. I mentioned that I like to play table tennis and Chamal arranged for me to train with a coach who played for the Sri Lankan national team. We had a problem with a hotel room and Chamal returned to pick us up and helped us arrange for another hotel.

We had the most amazing experience in Sri Lanka with the chauffeur (Mr. Iranga Amila Rathnayake) provided by Mr. Sam. Mr. Sam co-ordinated wonderfully well with us before the trip and sent us regular updates about the type of car, details of the chauffeur, trip suggestions etc. Our chaffeur (Mr. Iranga Amila Rathnayake) was the perfect person to go on a 10 day tour of Sri Lanka. He was on time everywhere and every day. He was very friendly and did not let us feel like we were travelling with a person we met for the first time. He took us to all the local attractions (Which were not in our plans) additionally. He did not mind waking up very early or staying up very late as per our travel plans. I lost my phone on this trip and Mr. Amila very kindly lent us his phone during the trip. He was more than our chaffeur. He became our tourist guide and our friend as well. Thank you, Mr. Amila We loved spending time in Sri Lanka which is a beautiful country and we hope you use the services of Mr. Sam and Mr. Iranga Amila Rathnayake (+94 77 727 2114).

Our 10-day trip to Sri Lanka was made exceptional thanks to the outstanding service provided by Sam's private car hire company and our driver, Nish. Upon arrival at Colombo airport, we were warmly welcomed by Nish and Sam, who greeted us with a name sign and a beautiful bouquet of flowers—a delightful and unexpected touch. The vehicle provided was clean, comfortable, and perfect for our off-peak season trip. Nish was an exemplary driver—always safe, professional, and courteous. We appreciated his non-smoking, non-drinking policy during our journey, which ensured a pleasant and worry-free travel experience. Nish dined with us and was incredibly helpful in recommending and ordering local dishes and fruits that we should try. His translations at restaurants, hotels, and various attraction points significantly enhanced our trip, making it hassle-free and enjoyable. Nish also assisted us in negotiating prices, which was a great help since we weren't familiar with local bargaining practices. One of the highlights of our trip was Nish's dedication to ensuring we experienced the scenic Ella train ride from Demodara station. He meticulously coordinated the train schedules and secured our tickets, allowing us to enjoy the famous Nine Arches Bridge effortlessly within our agile itinerary. His attention to detail truly exceeded our expectations. While the trip was overwhelmingly positive, there were a few points to note. At times, we felt gently steered towards high-end souvenir shops and tea factories. Although the experiences were enjoyable, the prices were on the higher side. Additionally, we recommend discussing the cost of extra kilometers with Sam beforehand, as we found the charges for additional mileage to be higher than anticipated. It's wise to factor in extra kilometers for unplanned detours or trips around town. To our pleasant surprise, Nish gifted us a lovely memento at the end of our trip, which was a thoughtful gesture and a perfect end to our journey. Overall, we highly recommend this company and our driver Nish for a memorable and stress-free Sri Lanka experience. Just be mindful of potential hidden costs and plan accordingly.

  • Amazing 10-day tour of Sri Lanka! - Do it Your way!

    sriv280,,Dec 11, 2023

    - Review from Tripadvisor

    5.00

Sri Lanka Suri Tours & Travel is the best way to see Sri Lanka! Apologies in advance for the length of this review, but my wife and I really feel that there’s a lot to say that hopefully will benefit anyone planning a trip to Sri Lanka! First and foremost, a few weeks before the trip I had reached out to a few places that were “well-reviewed” (Trip Advisor and Google reviews)! I was hopeful to get some good ideas and competing quotes that would enable me to pick a tour operator for our special trip! This would be our 27th wedding anniversary and I was keen to make it somewhat special. So, I sent introductory emails to a few of the tour providers, and I waited. Sam from Sri Lanka Tours & Travel was one of two respondents. The other one basically responded in a form letter and asked me to choose from one of their pre-arranged tours. That was not what I was looking for. Sam asked the right questions – what’s your interest? Where do you want to go? How much time do you have? And so on! More to my liking of course, so we set this up! His prices were fair to me, and I was a little apprehensive of how the service would be, but absolutely amazed at the end-to-end service. We landed in Sri Lanka and were greeted by our tour guide/chauffeur – Nuwan – and greeted with Orchid garlands as a welcome to the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean”! That set the tone for the 10 day trip! We were headed straight from Colombo airport to the North-Eastern city of Trincomalee (called Trinco by tourists), then on to Kandy and Nuwara Eliya, followed by the beach towns of Mirissa, Bentota and finally back to Colombo! A trip carefully planned by Sam to include what we wanted, some history, some culture, some nature and a lot of relaxation! We drove a total of around 1,400 km in this trip so a lot of “car time” but Nuwan was amazing in that he educated and entertained us throughout the journey. On the route to Trinco, we saw not one or two, but 5 elephants just traveling on the roadside along with a few other animals – a pleasure and testament to this island! When we got to Trinco, we stayed at the Trinco Blue by Cinnamon (love this hotel and right on the beach!). We were tired post the nearly 5 hour drive, but loved the place (may have to come back!). The next day we visited the famed Koneshwaram temple of Lord Shiva and it was amazing! Once done with that, we took to the road and it was off to Kandy. On the way, Nuwan stopped at various places to let us taste Sri Lankan food (fruits, the famed King Coconut and more!). Once we reached Kandy, it was time for the Kandyan cultural show. Lovely evening entertainment and a visit to the famed Buddha tooth temple the next day. Nuwan went above and beyond to educate us on a lot of Buddhist traditions. Suffice it to say, my wife and I were simply floored at the grace and beauty of Sri Lankan culture. I’m just not sure I have seen anything like this before, and I have traveled a lot. Post Kandy, it was off to Nuwara Eliya, and my friends, it was cold there! We did not have jackets etc – and actually had a fireplace in the room which we used. We visited the famed Dambulla cave temple (quite a hike in terms of steps etc so not for the faint hearted!). However, once you see this you will be amazed at the sculpture and art! All of this around 1800 years old and it just makes you wonder! – How was this done? A side note here – my wife and I are vegetarians and Nuwan went the extra mile to make sure we always had good food and the best of Sri Lankan local fare (the vegetarian versions!). We loved eating with him as it gave us yet another chance to understand the people and culture of Sri Lanka! Post this, we headed to the beach towns of Mirissa and Bentota, and we loved these places! (We’re already making plans to return!). It was truly restful just to hear the sounds of the crashing waves and take beach walks! I never realized just how restful this felt. In Mirissa, we took a Dolphin and Whale watching tour (prepare to block 5 hours for this) and it was worth every penny! Once again Nuwan took us on a good tour (see review on Kumara and Whales) and truly amazing experience. As we left the beach areas, Nuwan took us to to a Turtle rescue center and we were genuinely impressed with the work they were doing to rescue the various species of Sea Turtles! It was lovely and really made an impression! At a time when the world is polluting the skies and the oceans, Sri Lanka is going the other way. Everywhere there are recycling receptacles, and we keep hearing “we have a solution for pollution”! God bless this country! On the theme of celebrating our 27th wedding anniversary! Nuwan made it exceptionally special by getting us not 1 or 2 but a total of 5 cakes over a 3-day “anniversary period”! In addition, he created a collage of all of our pictures from the trip, framed it and gifted it to us! We never had anything like that before and are super grateful for the thoughtful gift! The experience with the Buddhist culture really impacted my wife and I and we loved it! We requested Nuwan to take us to the Keleniya temple where it is said that when you enter, all od your sins are washed away. The peace and tranquility around that temple would certainly reflect that. We remain grateful to Nuwan for indulging us. We wrapped up our tour in Colombo and I have to say, for a country struggling to re-build it’s economy after a painful decades-long civil war which ended in 2016, they are on the right track, and their capital city is cleaner than most I have seen! I credit the people and their culture of grace and respect for people and the environment! In summary, a trip to Sri Lanka without Sri Lanka Suri tours and travel (Sam’s company) and guides like Nuwan would be incomplete. These are amazing and caring professionals that are keen to show off their gem of a country and they do it keeping in mind what you want to see and do. Nuwan was careful to go at a pace that was comfortable for us, and always super prompt and available to us. His car was immaculately maintained and super comfortable. We felt like we made a mess in his car (trekking mud into it and such) but every morning the car was immaculately clean like nothing ever happened! These guys are the best! You cannot go wrong!
