  Our 3 nights and 4 days hiking in the mountains were superb. We were picked up in Bukhara, stayed in 3 different home stays, trekked 12-15kms each day, and were dropped off at our hotel in Samarkand. The home stays in Hayat, Ukum, Asrof were fabulous. The families were all warm and friendly, served great food, and took time to engage with us. Sober, our trekking guide, was delightful. He had an abundance of local knowledge and relationships and didn’t tire of our many questions. He was engaging, attentive and had a great sense of humour. This experience has been a highlight of our time in Uzbekistan.

  It was all very well organized. Communication was easy and everything was clearly arranged. We stayed with other tourists at a family’s place. However, it wasn’t quite the homestay I had expected, as we were in a separate accommodation rather than living directly with the family. There was plenty of good food provided during the tour. Overall, I would recommend it.

  If you want to experience Uzbekistan beyond the architecture and dive into its soul and landscapes, Nuratau Travel is the way to go. We used this 2-day mountain stay as a bridge between Bukhara and Samarkand—a logistically perfect decision for travelers with a tight schedule. Highlights of our tour: Logistics & Transfer: The pickup in Bukhara was perfectly punctual. Our driver was highly professional, navigating the mountain roads safely and ensuring a smooth door-to-door transfer to our next stop in Samarkand. A massive time-saver compared to public transport. Guide (Sardor): A total highlight of our trip. Sardor is incredibly charismatic and provided deep insights into village life and local history that go far beyond standard guidebook facts. The hike was diverse and offered spectacular views—the ideal intensity for active travelers. Accommodation & Food: The guesthouse was clean, full of character, and felt truly authentic. The culinary experience was a standout of our entire journey: the food was fresh, local, and served in incredibly generous portions. Ideal for those seeking maximum cultural depth and efficiency.   The travel company is very good ! They have exceptional guides and drivers that speaks English fluently. Also they responde fast to messages and are flexible if you want to make some changes in your trip. The guest house are very friendly, especially the second one that is our best memories in Uzbekistan.

  This tour is more of a farmstay with a simple morning's hike - which was what I wanted. Nurutau's tour was well-organized, I knew when and where I needed to be; my driver was ready early and everything happened as stated. You pay in advance, be forewarned that Responsible Travel, the payment processor, adds a pretty hefty surcharge for payment for the US. Even so, the price was within reason and the experience worth it. My driver, Hamza was a very good driver, with basic English but friendly. In Uzbekistan, being able to navigate tough roads was more important, and he knew what he was doing. The family I stayed with was also warm and friendly. Accommodations were basic (and I saw there would be a more equipped guesthouse a short walk away run by this family's relatives that would open later in the season). I'm torn, I'd like to be more comfortable (there was one rustic bathroom, there was no wifi), but it was only a night, and I liked being someplace more "real." Our hiking guide, Sardon was an excellent guide with conversational English, and I enjoyed the walk to the petroglyphs very much. It also happened that the other tourists (one family group of five) there were lovely people, but that's the luck of the draw. This tour is an excellent contrast between Bukhara and Samarkand - going to the mountains in between made both desert trading cities feel less like the other. I'm not sure if I would have preferred less rustic accommodations, I also would have lost something being in a more tourist-oriented guesthouse instead of a working farm.

  This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Uzbekistan. Ikrom our driver and Sardor our tour guide were amazing! They were friendly and informative and hanging out with them was like spending time with dear friends. They’re the best. I highly recommend taking a few days between Bukhara and Samarkand and visiting the rural side of this amazing country. You’ll see friendly local villagers on donkeys, beautiful mountains, and if you do the hike, 2,500 year old petroglyphs. If you even have a passing interest in rural life or getting off the beaten path, this tour is a must! Only wish we had done a few more days. Oh, and Ulugbeck’s guest house is welcoming and comfortable. We even had an en suite bathroom!
