Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela
Your local guide-driver will be waiting for you at Lalibela airport, and the guide will highlight for you about the day program of you. Before lunch, you will visit the first groups of churches, which named Earthly Jerusalem, 6 of the churches in this compound, and been built firstly. Then time for check-in and lunch at your hotel, of course, you will have some free time to relax before we go to the next tour. After having your lunch, and a bit relaxation, you will continue touring the second groups of churches, which we called the Heavenly Jerusalem, 4 of them are in one compound, then walk a bit to see the church of the house of St. George or the masterpiece rock-hewn church of Lalibela and the most beautiful one, after visiting this cross form church your guide leady you to a local house for a cookery class where you will have the opportunity to make and enjoy a traditional dinner, and also attend the traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony. A Flexible Tour through Lalibela

5.00We picked this Operator for all his great reviews and he did not disappoint. He is responsive with messaging almost right away, and I made payment through Western Union. We were picked up at the airport, and enjoyed two very informative days. While the first day we had to share the churches with the expected other tourists, many of whom we’re on the exact same plane doing the same itinerary, fortunately, in the next day we adjusted the itinerary to avoid the cluster of visitors are doing the same thing at the same time. While touring the churches was certainly a highlight, and everything that I had hoped for, a visit to his home, and coffee ceremony and food experience with his family was particularly unique. Highly recommended for a tour of.Lalibela.

5.00We had a wonderful time with our guide, Mulie, on our 2 day tour of Lalibela. He has extensive knowledge of the churches and tailor made our itinerary to include a trip to a local bar, as we had expressed our desire to go. He also helped us purchase food to bring to the church to help the parish break their fast, as we visited during the incredible Assumption of Mary. What a time to go! Lalibela is so beautiful, and I would go back in a heartbeat! Next time, we hope to book a longer trip with Zagol that includes trekking through the mountains. Do not hesitate to contact Zagol for your tour in Ethiopia!

Our guide was absolutely excellent – extremely knowledgeable about the history and traditions, and he shared everything with such passion that it truly brought the place to life. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does, and that made the tour even more special. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Lalibela!

5.00What makes these churches extraordinary beyond their mere existence, is that they are still in active use by a devout and engaged population. Visiting with Muluye, a guide who was born in Lalibela and is a member of the religious community, provided an invitation into the local practices for a deeper and more meaningful experience. Try to visit on a special day of observation in the Orthodox calendar if you are able.

5.00Visiting the rock churches of Lalibela was one of the most impressive travel experiences we have ever had. Their architectural style is unique. And they are not museums, but places of intensely lived faith. And with Muluye Tsegaw we had the best guide you could imagine. He knows everything and you can feel his deep spiritual connection to these holy places. Muluye is simply infectious with his enthusiasm for these churches. The cooking evening at Muluye and his wife's house was also a special experience. We were involved in the entire meal preparation. That was very interesting and a lot of fun. Before our trip to Ethiopia we were sure that it would be a very special, unique trip. Now we are sure: we will come back - to Muluye!

5.00Mulie is a fantatstic guide. He is rooted and well connected in Lalibela with a deep understanding of the culture and religion not only locally but Ethiopian-wide. He can answer all of your questions whether being related to archtitecture, history and social life. Mulie is well versed in English and attentive to cater to your individual needs while being fun to be around. He is well organized and his choice of transportation was modern and save. We enjoyed our time very much and can highly recommend him.
