These Churches were carved during the time of King Lalibela (1181 – 1221) and are registered by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Day 02: Fly Back to Addis Ababa Early in the morning visit Neakuto Leab church Lying 7 km from Lalibela, just off the airport road, is this simple but attractive church. It’s attributed to King Lalibela’s successor and shelters in a natural cave. Some very old stone receptacles collect the precious holy water that drips from the cave roof. Then fly back from Lalibela to Addis Ababa.

5.00Lalibela was at the end of our trip. It was a wonderful mood as Epiphany was about to arrive. Ethiopia is a very religious country and lalibela is considered 2. Jerusalem and is thus an important pilgrimage site with its many churches. Our guides were funny and very friendly. We have learned much more about the culture, religion and history lalibela. The churches built in rocks are impressive! Especially the stick dark overhang from one church to the other (from hell to heaven), here is 100% reliance on the guide. In the evening we had great conversations and drank delicious beer in a wonderful bar in the middle of the village square;) Lalibela (all Ethiopia) is a charming place.
