Wae Rebo’s main characteristics are their unique houses, which call Mbaru Niang that are tall and conical in shape and are completely covered in lontar thatch from its rooftop down to the ground. It appears that at one time such kind of houses were quite common to the region. But today, it is only this village that continues to maintain the typical Manggarai traditional house, without which these unique houses would have been completely fazed out.
Village completely surrounded by panoramic mountains and the dense Todo forest. This tropical forest is rich in vegetation, where you will find orchids, different types of ferns and hear the chirping of many soInter .

It took us a 4-hour drive from Labuan, followed by a 2-hour hike to reach the village. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a simple yet satisfying dinner of rice, eggs, and vegetables, and had the opportunity to meet the local tribe members in their traditional hut. They were incredibly friendly and hospitable. At night, we were provided with a bed, pillow, and blanket, making our stay quite comfortable. Breakfast the next morning was a similar meal of rice and eggs. Overall, it was a wonderful experience in the village. I would highly recommend it to anyone, though it's important to note that the journey isn't easily accessible. The hike is long but manageable

I can confidently say that Wae Rebo is one of the most beautiful traditional villages I have ever visited. The journey to get there is quite challenging, starting with a rough car ride along damaged roads. Upon arrival, we had to take a motorbike taxi to the starting point of the hike, which spans approximately 7 kilometers with many steep inclines. It took me about 2.5 hours to reach the village, while the descent was much quicker due to the downhill terrain.

My daughter (25) and I (68) went on the 2 Days Private Tour by Discovery Komodo Adventures - and we both wished we had booked a longer tour. We were incredibly fortunate to have ALFONS as our tour guide and YANO as our driver. - the best driver/ guide team you could wish for. From the start the tour was well organised. ALFONS shared fascinating insights of live in Flores. He was very attentive to our needs, and accommodated our interests. YANO made sure we were comfortable and felt safe throughout the long, adventurous car journey. He navigated the challenging roads carefully, safely and showed great courtesy to everyone using the roads. A stand-out feature of the Private Tour was the opportunity to stop wherever and whenever to meet locals going about their daily lives from planting tobacco and rice to ladies weaving Songket. I highly recommend requesting ALFONS as your guide and and YANO as your driver. Susanne Taylor, Australia
