Experience the Icelandic horse tradition on a small farm, located just 20 minutes from downtown Reykjavik. Despite being so close to the city, you will feel like you are deep in the countryside when you arrive at the farm. There just a small number of horses here and tours are always operated just for you and your private group, so that they have an intimate, personal and authentic feel. We will take you on a horse riding tour to Lake Hafravatn, where you can admire the scenery while spending time with our friendly horses. This is an excellent tour for first time riders and experienced riders alike.
Full riding time is roughly two hours.

Any cruise ship passengers wishing to take the tour must provide the following information at time of booking: ship name, docking time, disembarkation time and re-boarding time
Important: Due to the comfort of the horses, unfortunately passengers weighing over 105kg will not be able to take part in the tour
Dress according to weather
Please note that any unwashed riding gear is not allowed to be brought into Iceland from abroad
Comfortable riding shoes are recommend or walking shoes/ good sneakers
The easiest way to get to our farm is to take bus no 15 from Reykjavík to us
If a rider is not following instructions, is not capable of riding or if guides feel insecure about taking a guest for a riding tour - the tour might be cancelled, with out refund.
Guest must be fit to mount and dismount the horse without stepping stool
Guest must weigh less than 105kg
Not recommended for those with allergy for horses, dogs or grass

What To Expect
*Escape the crowds - Private riding tour* We will meet the horses and then go out for around 2 hour riding tour. At arrival to our stable you will be met by one of our guides. As the tour is private it will only be you and your group along with the tour guide. Our tours start at the stable preparing you and the horse for the ride. Then we will head out, exploring the beautiful nature in our area. Whether you are a novice or have some prior experience, our guides will tailor the tour to your individual needs. From mounting and dismounting to mastering the basic of riding gaits, you'll gain confidence in the saddle while building a solid understanding of proper riding techniques. Our riding tours are designed to not only enhance your riding abilities but also to provide a unique and immersive experience in nature, enjoying the scenic vistas of our area both of lake Hafravatn as well as of the nearby mountains and fields. The total riding time varies a little bit depending on your riding level. You can expect the tour to take around 2 hour to 2,5 hours. Total time from arrival to departure is around 3 hours.

5.00Want a fun and personalized way to experience the Icelandic horse on vacation! My spouse and I took a private tour and felt like our preferences for riding speed, challenge and terrain were taken into account which made the ride exciting and interesting for us! We rode for a few minutes in an enclosed paddock to familiarize ourselves with our horses and a new to us riding style, before hitting the trails. Our guide provided lots of information about the history of the area in which we rode which was an added bonus! The horses were well cared for and beautiful! We were able to reach the stable in our rental car, but for those without a car, it is accessible on the bus line. Do not hesitate to book this tour!
Must do if you like to ride. Will do it again when we go back.

5.00We had an amazing time. We felt 1 hour would be too short so we opted for a 2 hour ride which was a great choice. The weather was beautiful and getting to be out on a beautiful day riding horses and have it all to yourself made for a great activity, would definitely recommend this for anyone who enjoys riding horses and wants to have a more personal experience and not be with 10 other people on a group trip. We got to ride at all different gates and our guide made the trek a great experience where we got to learn more about the horses and information about Iceland.

5.00I did a 2-hour riding tour to Lake Hafravatn in August 2025 with six friends and Linnea and Denise as our guides. During my 9 days in Iceland I did three different 2-hour riding tours and this one was by far the best, even though the weather wasn't cooperating. They put us in overalls and rain gear so we were very protected against the rain. We had one in our group who hadn't been on a horse before but he did great, but trotting and tolting. Two in our group were very experienced so they were allowed to gallop while the rest of us tolted. A great thank you to our guides for making this riding tour special and amazing!

5.00I'm pretty hard to please because I grew up riding horses. This private excision was perfect! They were good at seeing our skill level and making the experience ours. There was chatting, learning about Icelandic horses and Iceland in general on the journey. Pickup and drop off were seamless and very accommodating. Provided equipment and weather gear we did not already have. They took pictures and videos and shared as well. Wow!!

5.00When picking a stable for a trail ride in Iceland it felt like I was faced with endless options, but the reviews for Icelandic Riding, Jonina, her horses and stable were what drew me in and I am so grateful that this is where we wound up! Even before our ride Jonina was a great guide and communicator, reaching out to learn more about our previous experience to best plan our ride and horse partner. Given Iceland's unpredictable weather, she even planned ahead and watched the forecast, giving us alternative time options based on the predicted weather to try to give us the best experience possible. When Iceland predictably called the weatherman's bluff, she set us up with stable-provided heavy duty rain gear which kept us even more warm and dry for our ride out. As someone with previous riding experience, I appreciated the time Jonina spent matching us with the best fit for our riding level, and allowing us to take time to brush and get to know our mounts (and vice versa). She did a great job explaining differences in riding styles and commands and kept us feeling safe and confident while also enjoying every moment out on the trails. Jonina did a great job sharing interesting information about Icelandic horses and the continued work she and the country are involved in to ensure they receive the best care and happiest lives they can possibly get. It is clear the horses are loved, well cared for, and truly love their jobs. If you want a private and personal ride you will enjoy no matter the weather, definitely book a ride with Icelandic Riding! Thanks agan for such a great day!

5.00I came to Iceland from the states, and I knew that riding Icelandic horses was at the top of my list of things to do. This facility DID NOT disappoint. With over 20 years of riding experience, I was looking for something fast pace, and they excelled past every expectation I had. I will never forget this experience.
