His keen sense of where to find the birds you’re after combined with his excellent ability to find birds through calls alone, give you the opportunity to see as many birds as possible. This tour is also customized, based on our clients desires and mobility. If you are after a specific bird species, we will do our best to accommodate that request. Walter also leads his tours with his telescope and phone adapter, allowing you to get close and personal to the birdlife. He can help you take lovely photos and videos too!

What To Expect
The main focus of this activity is to acquaint you with the birdlife biodiversity of the area. This trip is custom, meaning it is ideal for recreational birders, beginner birdwatchers, professional birders, birdwatching enthusiasts, bird photographers and wildlife lovers. We will try to spot as many birds as we can, including the regional endemic species. The spotting scope is always available for our clients to observe all the amazing details of the birds. Multiple birding locations are available. We are also happy to come to you, to your home, AirBnB or hotel grounds to lead the activity.

5.00We joined Walter to chase Quetzals in the Dota region, look for birds in the mangroves of Sierpe, and spy pumas in Corcovado National Park! Walter was extremely knowledgeable, great at spotting wildlife, funny and fun to be around! We did our first tour in Dota with him, then did two more tours later in our stay. His is a small operation so phone calls and details came “just in time,” but he was always accommodating. The accommodation he arranged for us were very nice!

5.00This was our first birding adventure and it was incredible! We saw many different species and Walter's enthusiasm was contagious. As novice birders, he gave really helpful tips that ultimately led to us gaining some birding skills and finding some neat species, including a black-crested coquette hummingbird! The pace was perfect and not too rigorous (we also had my two 70 y/o parents and two kids with us). He has excellent communication skills and clearly is an expert at what he does - I would recommend him to birders of all levels. Overall, he is truly passionate and gifted at what he does! I feel fortunate to have found him online before coming to Costa Rica. We're officially hooked on birds now!

5.00Walter was an excellent guide who led our group in two separate private tours! Our group considered of all levels of birders and we were all delighted by what we saw. He led us around our Airbnb in Ojochal then on a boat ride around Sierpe. We saw some rare birds up close in Sierpe- he knew all the spots. Walter made sure we all got good views of the birds and educated us on each one. He has an easy going style that puts you at ease as you walk through beautiful jungles or boat on rivers. He really enhanced our wildlife experience on the trip. Walter is really passionate about birds and he certainly made me more enthusiastic about them as a beginner birder!

5.00Walter is an exceptional guide! He has a sharp eye and even better ears - he often helped up spot new species simply by hearing their call and leading us to them. I am new at birding and he helped me learn so much! He is such a passionate and knowledgeable person, a true expert with a wealth of knowledge. He also knows the history of Costa Rica and cultural knowledge that he freely shared. He has connections with lots of people in the area and can craft a unique experience based on your individual goals. He’s a kind and friendly person as well! We liked him so much we booked him twice! You’ll find his prices are competitive if not more affordable than other guides.

5.00We went on an early walk along local roads through and adjacent to fields, forest, and riparian forest. It was casual and unhurried but full of birds, related and unrelated information, and humor. Walter knows a lot more about birds than their identities. Instructive and delightful.

5.00Walter was such a great guide for our first trip to Costa Rica. We logged 43 species (new to us) including a rare white tipped sicklebill hummingbird, which does not normally get to this range. Walter was knowledgeable about which plants would host which birds, and enthusiastically guided us to so many incredible birds. We hope to come back and attend one of his other wildlife and nature trips in different parts of Costa Rica.

5.00We had a great time with Walter and Osa Nature Experts. Our three hour hike turned into five because we were enjoying ourselves so much. We spotted over 40 species including several that were endemic to the area and even some very rare species like the white-crested coquette. Walter was extremely knowledgeable and his enthusiasm was contagious. He offers a wide range of guided tours. If you planning a visit I definitely recommend reaching out to Walter so he can tailor your tour to match your needs. Looking forward to our next trip!

5.00Our extremely kind and knowledgeable guide’s name was Maikol. He helped us identify many species of birds and took videos and photos with his spotting scope. It was an incredible experience. In addition, the tour was intended to be along the beach in Uvita. We had previously taken a naturalist tour in the same location. When we informed Maikol of this, he changed our tour location to the gardens and forests up above the town of Uvita to make sure we were able to see some different species. We really appreciated their flexibility and their willingness to change things up for our benefit. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone that loves birds. A phenomenal experience! Thank you Maikol!!!
