Manastirea Sinaia
Any trip to Romania and any vacation in Romania should include Sinaia Monastery, as one of the many Romanian tourist attractions with great spiritual and historical value. The monastery is located in the city with the same name, only 500 m away from Peles Castle and fairly close to Bucharest. The orthodox establishment is over 300 years old and it is dubbed as “the Cathedral of the Carpathians” due to its positioning in the most beautiful mountain resort in Romania surrounded by a stunning mountain scenery. It was also the first construction in this territory, founded by Prince (Spatarul) Mihai Cantacuzino. He decided to erect the house of worship following a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, with its name inspired by Mount Sinai.

Cetatea Rupea
A 14th century fortress! Rupea Fortress is a medieval fortress built by Transylvanian Saxons and first mentioned by a 1324 document. It is situated on a 120 m high basalt cliff, to the west of the Transylvanian town of Rupea in Romania.
Centrul Istoric Sighisoara
We start the morning with a tour of Sighisoara Old Town and we’ll have the chance to visit Clock Tower, and Arms museum. If you want to go back in time and catch a glimpse of what life was like in the Middle Ages, you absolutely have to visit Sighisoara, Romania’s medieval town, and Count Dracula’s (actually, Vlad the Impaler) place of birth. Built in 1280, the Sighisoara Citadel is not just one of the most visited tourist attractions in Romania, it is a living, breathing medieval fortress, since it has remained inhabited for over 700 years – which is quite rare.
Biertan Fortified Church
The Biertan Fortified Church, a historical monument of breathtaking beauty, was one of the first Transylvanian Saxon settlements in Ardeal, and today it is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Hundreds of tourists come here every year, and coming here you too will find out what makes this place special. Located in a small town that dates back to 1224, the church impresses through its stunning scenery and particular construction – built on a hillock in the center of town, surrounded by three defensive walls and 7 bastions.
Cetatea Alba Iulia
The city of Alba-Iulia, located in Central Romania is the site of an old Vauban-style fortress, considered impossible to conquer due to the 7-corner star model designed by the great French engineer, veteran, and architect Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban. The Alba Carolina citadel, an important destination on our Castles of Romania tour, is surrounded by three lines of fortification and its remarkable architecture make it one of the most representative fortresses in Romania; it is also one of the largest of its kind in Eastern Europe.
Big Square (Piata Mare)
A city tour to help you understand why Sibiu was elected as the European Capital of Culture, it includes the Evangelical Cathedral, the Sibiu Old City Center and the town itself, which are among the most visited tourist attractions in Romania, because they cater to every taste and provide a wonderful travelling experience for even the pickiest of tourists. If you love authentic cultural experiences, whether you are more romantic or more adventurous, here you will find everything you need to relax and enjoy yourself, leave the stress of your everyday life behind, and have a fun and memorable trip.
Calimanesti
If you catch a tour of the Romanian monasteries and you reach the Cozia Monastery you will understand why thousands of tourists are eager to see it. Guarded for over 600 years, on one side by the Olt river, on the other by mount Cozia, the fortified walls of this ancient monastery that have protected us from invaders in the past seem to preserve the Garden of Eden, a place of mystery and mythical beauty… From Calimanesti Spring you can treat you by liver problems only by drinking water from where Napoleon III use to drink ☺
Poienari Castle
We buckle up and venture up the 1400 steps to reach the Poienari Citadel (the “real” Castle of Dracula) which was the place where Vlad the Impaler would retreat in the event of an Ottoman invasion. We stop to take pictures to bring home to our friends, knowing that they will make them a little jealous.
Vidraru Dam
The Vidraru Dam is one of the most spectacular tourist attractions in Romania, which draws in hundreds of thousands of tourists annually. A wonder of engineering, it offers a breathtaking view of the reservoir lake built on Arges River.

My family scheduled three full day tours in Bucharest and Transylvania through Nicolas on our way to a river cruise. We also included pickup at the airport and drop-off at our cruise ship. The tours themselves were amazing, and highly recommended. Nicolas speaks great English, and has a great sense of humor to go with his immense knowledge. However, what really set Nicolas apart was the clear demonstration of how much he cared about us, and the experience we were having. It started right at the airport. The airline failed to get one of our bags on our plane, and the bag was not likely to arrive until after midnight. Nicolas insisted that, rather than have us use Bolt, Uber or a taxi to get the bag late that night, he would take us to retrieve the bag at no extra charge. He was concerned that our vacation was not ideal at its start, and he wanted to do everything he could to raise the quality of the experience. He had no part in causing our tough situation, but he was determined to do what he could to make it less painful. Who does that for people you have just met?? Nicolas is an excellent guide, but he is also just a really great guy that cares about other people and making their stay in his fine country as enjoyable as possible. That care was evident in all that we did together, which inevitably made him feel, after a short time, more like a friend than a mere service provider. I give him my strongest recommendation.

We spent four absolutely amazing days with Nicolas. Our request for this trip was to avoid tourist traps, to experience the real Romania and to see some of the country’s natural wonders. Our only requirement was to visit the town in northern Romania where family came from. Nicolas was spot on with his itinerary and we could not have asked for anything more. The hotels that Nicolas chose for us were all excellent and matched our requests. On tour, he was so accommodating and willing to change things at a moment’s notice to suit our wishes and his enthusiasm to show us his great country was very infectious. He allowed us a genuine insight into Romania and Romanians way of life, something in our experiences that is difficult for most tour guides to achieve. Because we wanted to see as much as possible in a short amount of time, this entailed a lot of driving. Nicolas is an excellent and extremely safe driver and his van is very well suited to this type of touring. It’s comfortable and spacious and he makes great effort to keep it clean. His English is excellent and he has a great sense of humour. He’s considerate, very knowledgeable (not just about Romania), seemingly tireless and it was a pleasure to be with him. Overall, our tour with him was excellent value for money. Some of the highlights were the stunning Carpathian Mountains, mud volcanoes, the salt mine, enjoying wild berries and fruit from roadside stalls, drinking pure mountain spring water, seeing wild bears, attending a service in a 600 year old UNESCO Heritage monastery, Sighisoara and spending hours finding my family connection. We have no hesitation in recommending Nicolas to anyone and we will certainly travel with him again when we next visit Romania.
