What To Expect
Simien Mountains National Park
Simien Mountains- 4 Days Trekking. Day 01 - Gondar to Sankaber: You will depart early morning from Gondar to Debark. In debark you will arrange your visit with the park office and receive a scout and guide then drive into the park to arrive at Sankaber. You can either drive all the way in to Sankaber or have the car drop you off near Buyit Ras for a short hike. If you choose to hike in you will take in beautiful views of the landscape and the endless mountain ridges, and you likely see some gelada baboons. When you arrive in Sankaber you will be met with your supplies. Sankaber will be the first campsite on your trip. Day 02 - Sankaber to Geech Camp: From Sankaber you will begin hiking following the ridge and look out over the foothills 800m down. From the ridge you will descend down into the valley and be able to view the Jinbar River plunging into the Geech Abyss. After some time at the waterfall you will continue on to Geech village where you will find your second campsite. Day 03- Geech to Chennek: After breakfast you will start off on a 7-8 hour hike of the best views you will see in the Simien Mountains. In route you will pass through Imet Gogo. Here you will have reached an altitude of 3,926m and be able to look out at the amazing landscape from 360 degrees. At this height and view point you can see the canyon below, distant ridges, and view the seemingly never ending valleys. After Imet Gogo you will hike to the view point at Innateye valley at an altitude of 4,070m. Lunch will be here and then you will descend to Chennek (3,600m) for your third campsite. Day 04- Chennek to Gondar: Breakfast at the campsite then a 2 hour hike up to the Buwahit peak. Here you will be standing on the second highest peak in the Simien Mountains (4,430m). Here is where many visitors are able to see the endemic animals like the Walia Ibex and Ethiopian Red Fox. After spending time at the peak you will hike back down to Chennek for lunch and transportation back to Debark/Gondar.

5.00I went on a three-day group tour. I was satisfied with the trekking tour, which allowed me to fully enjoy Simien Mountain, with its unique flora and fauna and Ethiopian land. He also helped me all the time, taking me to and from the tour and arranging accommodation. He is a very kind man and I owe him the pleasure of touring. This is a tour and tour company that I would definitely recommend to everyone.

5.00I spent 3 days in the mountains of Simiens with a small group that I had joined. Adem arranged everything for me very professionally. The Guide we were given was very kind and very accommodating. We went there in the rainy season and the first day we could not see anything in the mountain because of the fog, we asked to visit a village and he accepted directly, drove us there and explained everything about local life. The whole team was nice. At night you sleep in camp or you will eat excellent food and spend a moment by the fire with everyone. I could see the gelada monkeys, very beautiful views and enjoy the trek. I still recommend avoiding the rainy season for this excursion. Rain and fog can make the trek very unpleasant and you will not see as much. Thank you to the whole team!

5.00I have traveled the world with my family to hike and explore the greatest eco-tourist destinations in the world, and I can say with 100% certainty that the North Ethiopian Tour Operator Company is by far best in class. First off, Adem is a great business man. All details of the tour were perfectly organized and executed. The personal interest that Adem and his team took in the satisfaction of the tour with my son and I was at a level I had not previously encountered. Our itinerary was carefully considered based upon the interests and levels of fitness of our group, and this ensured that no one in the group missed out on anything. The guide that Adem had assigned to our tour was a subject matter expert on the flora and fauna of the area. He paced our group perfectly- not too slow – not too fast - and made sure we missed out on nothing. The food was amazing. The professional cook on our tour served delious food every step of the way, with over generous portions. The staff had our comfortable tents and warm fresh sleeping bags set up at our campsites before we arrived in the evening. This put us in the position to not worry about any of the campsite details. We were able to enjoy the nature and our time with the group. The natural beauty of the Semien Mountains is well known and documented. Suffice it to say, this is world class natural beauty and wildlife, beyond your wildest dreams. Finally, we had a health emergency when we were into our tour, and had to cut our trip short. Immediately, Adem and his team arranged for transport off the mountain, and we were back in Gondar by the early afternoon of the same day. If you think this is an easy feat, guess again. Only because Adem has extensive business relationships built in the tourist community, was he able to with no problem get us off the mountain. Quickly and safely. In summary, when we return to Ethiopia – and we will for sure – We will only use North Ethiopian Tour Operator Company.

5.00A solo trip to Gondar. I went on the trek to the Simens Moutains with Adam's help. The trek is very well organized and the discovery of these mountains, its monkeys is exceptional. I recommend this tour operator and especially Adam who will make this trek a great experience!

5.00This was one of the best experiences of my entire life. North Ethiopian crew made sure that everything ran smoothly, taking best care of us. The hike just breathtaking. Food was good too. All of the members of the crew were the kindest human beings you can get. Thanks to them and their awesome company, this one became the highlight of our African trip. Looking forward to travelling with them again!

4.00The hike was great, but wouldn’t recommend it for the dry season. I can imagine it’s amazing after the rains. The crew was very helpful, the chef put in lots of effort and all my needs were taken care of. I would suggest that the guide do a safety briefing before the hike starts, cause that was not done. Adem was very attentive and helpful with getting me transport back to Gondar when I needed to go back a day early. Thanks Adem. The owner, not sure of his name but someone told me he was the owner, had a real nasty attitude with me when I told him I needed to leave a day early, and he really got on my nerves. Apart from him, everyone else was great. I would hope more money goes to the rest of the crew and not him!

5.00Trekking around the Simien Mountains was the highlight of my trip to Ethiopia and Adem made it particularly special! He's a great guy and really knows his stuff and what's more he speaks great English which really made the difference. The trek was really well organised and the scenery on show was just incredible :O While he also organises tours to other parts of Ethiopia, I didn't have time to go on them but I'm sure he'd do just as good a job as in the Simiens. Thanks Adem!
