Each year around the same time, the circular great wildebeest migration begins in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area of the southern Serengeti in Tanzania and loops in a clockwise direction through the Serengeti National Park and north towards the Masai Mara reserve in Kenya. This migration is a natural phenomenon determined by the availability of grazing. The initial phase lasts from approximately January to March, when the calving season begins – a time when there is plenty of rain-ripened grass available for the 260,000 zebra that precede 1.7 million wildebeest and the following hundreds of thousands of other plains game, including around 470,000 gazelles

Tarangire National Park

Pick from your hotel in Zanzibar and drive to Tarangire National Park with picnic lunch box. In 1970, the national park emerged from a former colonial hunting ground. He has a very diverse animal world, not least because of its size, which corresponds to approximately Luxembourg. The park is home to one of the largest elephant populations in the north of Tanzania, but is also home to many other wild animals. With some luck you can spot lions, cheetahs or leopards. The landscape of the park is very diverse. Especially the huge baobab trees, which are located close together in the north-eastern sector of the park, are particularly impressive. After an extensive game drive, you will drop to your lodge for dinner and overnight

Serengeti National Park

Waking up in the Serengeti is something really special. You will spend this day in central Serengeti, known as the Big Cat Capital of Africa, the Seronera is rich in lion, leopard and cheetah – and people often spot all three in one day of game drives. Look for leopard around the Seronera River, which is home to one of Africa’s densest populations of the big cats, while lions can often be seen on the kopjes.bSerengeti Plains – the open savanna south of the Seronera River – are prime cheetah territory. Other animals to spot in the area’s varied habitats of rivers, swamps, kopjes and grasslands include elephant, hippos and crocodiles in the rivers, buffaloes, impala, topi, jackals and bat-eared foxes. After a pleasant picnic lunch, it’s time to drive eastwards to visit another spectacular setting for Tanzania’s wildlife, the famous Ngorongoro Conservation area. On arrival, settle in at the lodge while a tasty, hot dinner is prepared for you. Tomorrow, the wonders of the crater await us.

Ngorongoro Crater

Today you will have plenty of time to enjoy another true spectacle, Ngorongoro Crater. This is often referred to as a wonder of the world and your early morning game drive shows you why. We will descend 600m into the crater for a wonderful game drive inside the Ngorongoro Crater on World Heritage Site holding a permanent population of more than 30 000 animals. As only very few of those migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. The Crater is also home to the rare black rhino almost extinct in Tanzania. With a bit of lucky you will see the ‘Big Five’ during one game drive. You will have your picnic lunch in the crater before commencing your drive back to Arusha.

  • One of the best safaris I have had in Tanzania.

A very nice, skilled driver/ guide picked me up at the airport of Arusha and we drove all the way to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and continued our journey to Lake Ndutu. It was a long day, but I was prepared and the experiences I had at the lake were worth the trip; giraffes fighting, thousands of flamingos and herds of wildebeest and zebras with newborn calves and foals. The Lake Ndutu Luxury Tented Camp was quite an experience in the middle of the wilderness. Friendly people and a very good standard. The next day we took another lap around the lake, where we also got to witness mating lions, before driving on to the Serengeti National Park. The Serengeti was full of experiences. I got to see almost all the animals I had dreamed about. My driver was well-known in the park and cooperated with the other drivers, so we had many exciting encounters with wild animals. The highlight was perhaps the meeting with the three cheetah brothers, Two nights in the Serengeti were spent in Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp. A very pleasant camp with friendly staff who know how to make the guests happy. Good food and practical tents, and personal follow-up for everyone. It is especially nice when you are traveling alone. On the last day, there was only time for a short tour before we hurried back to Arusha, but we caught a hyena nursing her two cubs, fighting hippos and a cheetah before we started the 7-hour drive to Arusha.

Fantastic! Everyone was incredibly nice and prepared for contingencies! We were both so surprised at the number of animals and sightings. The last days tour was very educational about Tanzania’s challenges and how some communities work together to do their best to solve them. Very responsive regardless of when we needed to talk. Not least of all our guide was most accommodating and did everything in his power to make sure that we were very happy and he exceeded his goals. The Safari could not have been better

Everyone was phenomenally friendly. Great staff who were always available to talk. We saw everything we expected to see and more. Elephants, lions, cheetah, leopard, wildebeest, buffaloes, antelope, flamingos, rhinoceros. Exceptional trip, well worth the money. The wildlife is fleeting as people expand into their territory. Take the time to see them while you can. Don’t leave your trash anywhere except the garbage can or bag. There’s tons of trash in populated areas and I asked the locals what they think about tourists, one thing they noted was some tourists disrespecting the natural area. This is a beautiful country with a beautiful people and culture, don’t neglect it.
