Mount Kilimanjaro

After spending a night at the great Barranco Wall (a very imposing sight at first), you make your way up this awesome looking obstacle, which in the end normally turns out to be easier than anticipated. Topping out just below the Heim Glacier, you will now appreciate just how beautiful Kilimanjaro really is. You will then head towards Barafu Camp. Barafu is the Swahili word for “ice” and it is a bleak and inhospitable camping area to spend the night. Totally exposed to the ever- present gales, the tents are pitched on a narrow, stony, and dangerous ridge. Make sure that you familiarize yourself with the terrain before dark to avoid any accidents. The summit is now a further 1214m higher and you will commence with your final ascent attempt, the same night. Prepare your equipment, hiking poles and thermal clothing for your summit attempt. To prevent freezing it will be wise to carry your water in a thermal flask.

Mount Kilimanjaro

Very early in the morning (midnight to 2am), we continue our way to the summit between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers. You head in a northwesterly direction and ascend towards Stella Point on the crater rim. This is the most mentally and physically challenging portion of the trek. At Stella Point (5700m), you will stop for a short rest and will be rewarded with the most magnificent sunrise you are ever likely to see (weather permitting). From Stella Point, you may encounter snow all the way on your 1-hour ascent to the summit. At Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro and the continent of Africa. Faster hikers will see the sunrise from the summit. From the summit, we now make our descent continuing straight down to the Mweka Hut camp site, stopping at Barafu for lunch. You will want gaiters and trekking poles for the loose gravel going down. Mweka Camp is situated in the upper forest and mist or rain can be expected in the late afternoon.

Day 6

Mweka Camp (3090m) to Mweka gate (1641m)

Food and Drinks

BREAKFAST

Breakfast

Mount Kilimanjaro

After an early and well-deserved breakfast, it is a short 4 to 6 hour and scenic hike back to the park gate. Some hikers do experience knee problems which could make the descend longer than planned. It is strongly recommended not to pay your porters any tips until you and all your gear have reached the gate safely. Visit the tips page for more info. At Mweka gate you sign your name and details in a register. This is also where successful climbers receive their summit certificates. Those climbers who reached Stella Point (5739m) are issued with green Certificates and those who reached Uhuru Peak (5895m) receive gold certificates. A vehicle will meet you at Mweka village to drive you back to your accommodation.

I booked a 6-day-trip to climb the Kilimandjaro with my girlfriend and it was incredible. First of all, our main contact (Peter) was fully available and answered all our questions as this was completely new for us. He organized everything : from the transport of the airport to the hotel, to our stay before and after the climb ensuring everything was done fluidly. We had a 11-people team with Martin as the main guide. His knowledge of the wildlife, his experience of the mountain and his devotion to make us summit made this adventure an absolute dream. We felt completely in good hands and of course… we summitted!!! The food was excellent and we still don’t understand up to now how it was possible to cook such amazing things at 4000 meters 😅. The whole team of porters was also really nice and authentic. The did an amazing job, took great care of us and our luggage’s from every camp and welcomed us each time with big smiles. One tip : I advise you to ask for the private toilets : a little add-on which is really worth it! Thank you guys for making our dream come true 🫶

  • Magical and unforgettable adventure!

Our 6-day Kilimanjaro trek was flawlessly organized from start to finish. Before we started, Peter arranged a helpful meeting with our guide, Martin, to check our gear and explain the trek in detail. They both answered all our questions and really took our needs into account. Throughout the trek, Martin was amazing — walking at our pace, checking on how we were feeling, and even carrying our backpacks at times to help us reach the summit. He was truly dedicated. At camp, everything was ready when we arrived. The food was absolutely delicious, and the whole team — porters and chef — were incredibly kind and welcoming. I 100% recommend this team. It's a magical and unforgettable adventure!

  • Unforgettable Kilimanjaro Experience!

We had an amazing 6-day trek to the top of Kilimanjaro organized by a local company in Moshi. Peter took care of all the planning, and we met our guide, Martin, the day before the climb — he explained everything clearly and made us feel ready. The whole team was incredible, always making sure we were comfortable and motivated. Martin was a fantastic guide — knowledgeable, kind, and always adapting to our pace. He shared so much about the mountain and Tanzanian culture, and thanks to him and the team, we reached the summit! Even at 4600m, the food was delicious. I highly recommend this company for anyone dreaming of climbing Kilimanjaro!

We were thrilled with this tour from the start. Before the hike, our guide Jackson even took the time to borrow missing clothing and utensils. We were given detailed information about the schedule and received a hot meal three times a day. There were even three courses at lunch and dinner. We weren't expecting that at all. Everything tasted very good and my vegetarian diet was taken into account. My friend was given some meat and fish separately. The tent was very comfortable, we also had an awning where we ate our meals. Our guides Martin and Jackson were very considerate and always in a good mood. They adapted the pace to our needs and constantly motivated us. They were well prepared for emergencies with an oxygen bottle and medication. The porters and the cook were also incredibly friendly and accommodating. It is important to know that everyone expects a tip at the end and this is not included in the price! We would book the trip again with this great group in a heartbeat!
