Kairouan

departure for Kairouan for 2 hours this UNESCO World Heritage city is the first sacred city in the Maghreb!You will discover the emblem of the city, the Great Mosque of Kairouan, also known as Sidi Oqba Mosque. It remains today the oldest and most prestigious monument in Tunisia and the Maghreb. This mosque is also considered one of the most beautiful and harmonious Arab-Muslim architectural achievements. You will also visit the mausoleum of the barber “Sidi Sahbi”, and the basins of the “Aghlabites”. Kairouan is also famous for its artisan wool carpets and pastries. We also suggest you stroll through the alleys of the souk, convincing testimony to its prestigious past. Lunch in Kairouan. Unusual and surprising, Tozeur will unfold before your eyes its immense Saharan oasis, its rough and silent medina where we like to get lost and whose typical sand color constructions will not fail to charm you. Then departure for a short getaway towards Nefta.

Nefta

The city was once a Numidian city then Roman and finally Arab where it becomes a hotspot of Sufism. You will visit the “Nefta basket”, an area where springs once flowed. Water from 152 springs was channelled into a wadi to water the palm grove. In the streets of Douz were also shot footage from the film “The English Patient”. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Chott El Jerid

Early after breakfast, after an hour drive to Twelve "the gate of the sahara". A first stopover is planned in “Chott El Jérid”. The largest saline plain in Tunisia, changes according to the seasons, years and reverberation to become mirages. The landscapes of the puppy appear in several episodes of Star Wars including the exterior scenes of Owen Lars' residence located on Tatooine.

Douz

Matmata

You continued to Matmata 2 hours to discover the famous cave houses, emblem of “Stars Wars”. These dwellings were used as a decor for the interior of the Lars farm. Ingenious and built to withstand the climate, they are dug around a large circular open pit to capture light and thus keep a relatively regular temperature throughout the year. You’ll even have the opportunity to wander around some of them! Djerba Island

After breakfast, departure for the tour of the island of Djerba. Djerba has about twenty kilometers of blond sandy beaches, located mostly at the eastern end of the island. Gustave Flaubert nicknamed it “Island of the Golden Sands”. Ulysses would have crossed it, the Carthaginians founded several posts there, the Romans built several cities there. Continuation “El Djem” 2 hours and a half, the ancient Thydrus, one of the richest cities of Roman Africa. Located at the gates of the Sahel region, it is famous for its amphitheatre, the largest in the Roman Empire after the Colosseum of Rome! From the steps, you can admire the architectural masterpiece. Perched on a cliff overlooking Carthage and the Gulf of Tunis, this charming place will seduce you with the wonderful sweetness of life that reigns there. You can walk freely in this small village with Arab and Andalusian architecture. Sidi Bou Said’s houses, brightly white with blue doors, are scattered randomly along winding alleys, now known as the “little white and blue paradise”.
