River crossings at Kogatende starts in July as the mega herd settles into the area. Between July to October, game viewing is at its best with river crossings pretty much guaranteed every day. There is no distinct movement as the herds tend to cross back and forth over the river, following the rains and subsequent fresh grasses.

  • Outstanding experience

An outstanding safari organised by Leonard from Meruslopes. He was extremely helpful along the way and was very accomodating to our requests. Our safari guide, Jacob, was very knowledgeable and ensured we had the best possible chance to view all of the animals we wanted to see. We were fortunate to see the Big 5 on a number of occasions. Jacob was a very experienced driver and even leant a helping hand to the other drivers around the parks when they were in need. I would highly recommend using this company for your safari.

  • Privileged service and an unforgettable experience

We had an amazing stay! On site, our guide was exceptional: he knew the parks at his fingertips and saw any animal that dared hide. Don’t forget to take your binoculars, sometimes lions, leopards, cheetahs are far away, but sometimes 2 or 3 meters, see less😉 There are places for comfortable hotels, but here, the unforgettable experience is camping, between the sounds of animals, small or large at night, and zebras, cones, or marabouts that walk in the campsite, we lived the wilderness. For Meruslopes, we felt a lot of attention paid to our experience, with the feeling of being privileged compared to other agencies that seem more expensive, already we were that 3 in the vehicle, so a small group, is private then and I saw other vehicles of the agency with also small groups. The guide was very attentive and suggested either to start or on time or earlier to see the maximum, and thanks to this we could see 4 lions playing with his mother, at 7am, and no other jeeps on the horizon that hour. The same for the ngorgoro crater, we were probably the first at the entrance around 6am, watching the sunrise gently spread over the crater, it was beautiful. And the many other tourist jeeps arrived at the end of the morning. Thank you to Meruslopes, and I hope they keep the same sensitivity to the experience when we come back.

  • Unforgettable 7-Day Safari

Unforgettable 7-Day Safari This 7-day safari exceeded all expectations, blending thrilling game drives with seamless organization. From Arusha through Tarangire, Serengeti, Manyara Lake and Ngorongoro Crater, every day delivered iconic wildlife—elephants tribes, lion family, some action with lioness hunting zebra, and we saw all animal we expected including all big five. The pacing was perfect, balancing full-day explorations with relaxing evenings at quality camps. Standout Guide: Jacob Jacobo was exceptional, spotting elusive leopards, cheetahs, rhino others missed thanks to his sharp eyes and deep park knowledge. His enthusiasm and humor kept the group engaged, sharing fascinating facts about animal behaviours. Jacob’s safe driving over bumpy tracks ensured comfort even on long drives. He is definitely the best guide you can have over here. Mister Buga aka Buga dance turned camp dining and lunch into a highlight, preparing fresh, flavorful local tanzanian meals. Dietary needs were effortlessly handled, and his warm smile made every picnic feel special. His amazing meal elevated the entire experience. Jerome, the organizer, orchestrated everything flawlessly from airport transfers to timely park entries, allowing pure focus on the adventure. His proactive communication and attention to details made the trip stress-free and personalized. Highly recommend booking through him for future safaris and I will definitely come back with them! It was an exhilirating experience, my first time to come to Africa and first time to see up close a lot of wild animals and the migration of wildebeest! I had my mother and her batchmates from the Philippines and all over the world, it was a very big group and I had a lot of fun the entire 7 days (plus 1 night my mother and I came early). We had a few safari cars in convoy, admission was care of Meru Slopes, all their guides were very accommodating and made sure we had the best views whenever there is an interesting animal that is sighted. I would highly recommend visiting the safari with Kelvin Bonith and company.

  • A Life-Altering Safari with the Incredible Guide, Max! Beyond the Big Five!

    54yangy,,Oct 7, 2025

    - Review from Tripadvisor

Where does one even begin to describe a journey that recalibrates your soul? Our 7-day Tanzanian safari was not merely a holiday; it was a profound immersion into the raw, untamed heart of Africa, an experience so perfectly orchestrated that it felt like a dream. From the moment we landed to the tearful goodbye, every element was flawless, but the true magic was delivered by our exceptional guide and driver, Max. Our adventure’s primary goal was to witness the legendary Big Five. With Max at the helm, it felt less like a hope and more like a foregone conclusion. His sharp, trained eyes, honed over a decade of experience, spotted what we would have driven past a hundred times. We witnessed a pride of lions, majestic and lazy in the golden afternoon sun. We held our breath as a massive leopard draped itself over an acacia branch, its tail swinging lazily. A herd of formidable Cape buffalo stared us down with an intimidating presence, while a rhino was a rare and special sight in the distance. The climax was a close, heart-pounding encounter with a family of elephants, including adorable calves, which Max expertly positioned us to observe without causing any distress. To see all five was a check on a lifelong bucket list, but Max gave us the stories and context behind each sighting. But the magic of Tanzania isn't just in its poster animals. Max, with his infectious enthusiasm for all creatures, introduced us to the wonderfully Ugly Five. He made the warthogs with their comical run, the endearingly hideous marabou stork, the wildebeest with its awkward stature, the naked neck of the vulture, and the hyena with its peculiar gait into stars of their own show. He taught us about their critical roles in the ecosystem, turning what could be dismissed as "ugly" into fascinating examples of evolutionary adaptation. This added a rich, educational layer to the game drives we hadn't even known we wanted. Our journey through the Serengeti was an experience of pure, unadulterated wilderness. The word "vast" doesn't do it justice. It is an ocean of grass, a seemingly endless horizon that makes you feel both insignificant and completely connected to the planet. We experienced the great migration—a river of wildebeest and zebra stretching to the horizon, a chaotic, dusty, and awe-inspiring spectacle of life and death. The soundtrack of the Serengeti—the whoop of hyenas at night, the distant roar of a lion—is something you can't get from any documentary. Staying in a camp here, as you fell asleep to these sounds, was the definition of being truly alive. A stark and beautiful contrast to the Serengeti’s plains was the Ngorongoro Crater. Descending into this UNESCO World Heritage site felt like entering a lost world. The sheer purity and serenity of the crater lake and its surrounding landscape is breathtaking. The caldera walls create a natural enclosure for an unbelievable density of wildlife. Here, we saw flamingos painting the lake shore pink and witnessed a thrilling standoff between lions and hyenas. The air is cooler, the landscape greener, and the sense of peace is palpable. It’s a pristine, self-contained ecosystem that feels like a secret garden of Eden. None of these incredible sights would have been the same without Max. He was so much more than a driver; he was our teacher, protector, and friend. His professionalism was evident in everything he did. His Toyota Land Cruiser was impeccably maintained and clean every single day. He had an uncanny ability to anticipate animal movements, often getting us to the perfect spot just before a magical scene unfolded, avoiding the crowds. His knowledge of animal behavior, bird calls, and botany was encyclopedic. He didn't just name the animals; he told us their stories—their social structures, their habits, their struggles. What set Max apart was his genuine passion and infectious warmth. He shared in our excitement for every single sighting, from a majestic leopard to a tiny, colorful agama lizard. Over our seven days together, he felt like part of our family. His responsibility and meticulous nature were a constant comfort; we always felt completely safe in his hands, whether navigating tricky terrain or giving a respectful distance to a potentially dangerous animal. He was a master of his craft, and his dedication to giving us the best possible experience was evident in his tireless work ethic. Finally, the meals and camp accommodations were the perfect complement to the wild surroundings. The food was fresh, delicious, and plentiful. We enjoyed hearty breakfasts before dawn, lovely bush lunches under the shade of an acacia tree, and beautifully prepared three-course dinners. The camps we stayed in were absolutely magical. Falling asleep under a blanket of stars you never knew existed, listening to the sounds of the African night, and waking up to the sun rising over the savannah was an integral part of the experience. It was comfortable and welcoming, yet always maintained a deep connection to the natural world. In conclusion, if you are dreaming of Tanzania, do not hesitate. And if you have the incredible fortune to request a guide, ask for Max. He transformed our trip from a simple wildlife viewing vacation into a deep, educational, and soul-stirring journey. He gave us the Big Five, celebrated the Ugly Five, and guided us through the heart of the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro Crater with unparalleled skill and passion. Thank you, Max, for the trip of a lifetime. We will be back

We didn’t know anything about Meru Slopes and from the start, communicating with Kelvin, was easy and all well explained. We loved how he manage to fit our desires in our safari trip:) Lobulu, our Guide and driver, was an excellent communicator explaining about both animals and history of Tanzania. Was really close and share his great energy with us. Very professional also and problem solving:) Bonge, our cooker, was really tender and caring. We loved his food and presentation, always caring if we had enough (and we always were full and happy:) The hole experience was amazing, with Lobulu we could see a lot of animals in the best view, and we felt lucky but it’s also how he manage to comunicate and rely on his experience. We would repeat for sure :)

Meru Slopes exceeded my expectations with this wonderful safari experience. To start, Shadrack flawlessly organized 7 days in Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire and a luxury hot air balloon excursion. All camping and lodging accommodations and all airport transfers and food and beverage was included at great value. Hands down the best part of this trip was having Joel as our driver/guide. Thanks Joel for sharing with us all the knowledge and passion. We felt lucky to have you. Also, our chef Rashiki cooked for us the most delicious and healthy local cuisine. Juan Carlos
