We joined Troll Tours' 8-day Iceland tour in May 2026 and had an outstanding experience. The itinerary was exceptionally well planned, covering all the major highlights at just the right pace without ever feeling rushed. What truly made the trip unforgettable was our guide, John. From the moment he picked us up until the final drop-off, he was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about sharing Iceland with us. He provided excellent insights at every attraction, practical advice on safety and weather conditions, and great recommendations on where to find good local food. John is also an incredibly skilled people person. He somehow managed to turn a group of strangers from the US, Europe, and Asia into a friendly, interactive travel family by the end of the tour. His sense of humour, warmth, and enthusiasm made every day enjoyable. It's clear that guiding is more than a job for John—he loves people, loves sharing knowledge, and has a deep appreciation for Iceland, despite not being a native Icelander. Highly recommended. If you're considering a Troll Tours trip, count yourself especially lucky if John is your guide!

Our 8-day Ring Road tour with Troll was absolutely stunning. The itinerary was fantastic, the bus was highly comfortable, and we had a great crowd of fellow travelers. However, it was our wonderful guide, John, who truly made this trip unforgettable. Though John is not a native islander, I challenge anyone to find a more knowledgeable or passionate guide. He brought the entire tour to life, adding incredible depth and context to the breathtaking scenery. His energy and sense of humor were infectious, keeping our group perfectly on track while creating a fun atmosphere. He was also incredibly attentive, always ensuring everyone's dietary preferences were accommodated at every food stop. What truly sets John apart is his generosity. If group members opted out of a specific paid excursion, he would personally take them to see other local sights instead—something he certainly didn't have to do. This tour is the perfect length. By the end, you can well and truly say, “I’ve done Iceland!” I cannot recommend this experience enough.

Haffi was our guide and he made the trip absolutely fantastic. His deep knowledge of the area provided us a great appreciation of both the history or the area as well as current culture. The only constructive feedback is to the operator themselves: The rooms in most locations were very 3 star at best and the website shouldn’t present them as “boutique” as if they are special. We would also rate a few of the activities (ie: glacier hike and kayaking as moderate vs easy). Overall we felt that the trip was a great value for the price that we paid and our guide made the trip exceptional from an experience standpoint.

This was our second trip to Iceland and by far the best. We were there for a total of 12 days and thoroughly enjoyed it. The eight day tour with Troll was exceptional. Every day there was something new and beautiful to see. We were a lucky to have a fantastic guide, Thor, who made the trip very enjoyable. He was very accommodating and was an excellent guide.

Excellent landscape, many cute birds I've ever seen, professional and humorous guide… All in all, it was a great experience (except the food, I can't stand eating fish & chips and sandwiches for 8 days I'm missing Chinese food).

The trip was well planned and the price was very reasonable. Our guide, Jon, is true professional, humorous, kind, and genuinely nice. We traveled around the island and visited many famous landscapes in 8 days. The trip itself was already excellent, Jon’s profession brought it to another level. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland for the first time.

Jóhann was authentic and gave many recommendations for local food, places to walk to, and swimming pools. He made the trip memorable with his upbeat energy. The atmosphere was relaxed but not boring. The days were full of visiting waterfalls, churches, stopping for hotdogs, and having fun together learning as a group. I definitely recommend this tour & Jóhann as a tour guide! He went out of his way to make an extra stop at the tomato greenhouse and influenced the group dynamic in a positive way :)

This tour would not have been nearly as enjoyable or insightful without our guide, John. Beyond witnessing Iceland’s breathtaking scenery, I also gained a deep understanding of the country’s history, culture, demographics, geography, and socio-economic background. John shared his knowledge generously, making every place we visited more meaningful. John is an incredibly caring and detail-oriented guide, and most importantly, he is truly passionate about his job. Every morning, he refreshed our memories of the places we had visited and clearly briefed us on the day’s itinerary. Each evening before hotel check-in, he conducted a debrief so we knew what to prepare for, our departure time, and the next day’s plan. He consistently gave us practical advice on what to do and what not to do, especially regarding safety when arriving at new locations. He even thoughtfully reminded us to use the free toilets before long drives to the next destination — small details that made a big difference. Throughout the journey, John kept the atmosphere lively with his great playlist, cheering us up and making the long drives enjoyable. He encouraged plenty of interaction among the group, ensuring we left Iceland with a much better understanding of the country, not just photos. Along the way, he also brought us to special stops off the usual tourist route, allowing us to experience Iceland from a deeper and more authentic perspective. John went above and beyond — even constantly monitoring northern lights activity to ensure we had the best chance to see them. In conclusion, this is one of the best tours I have ever joined. I truly appreciate John’s professionalism and dedication in showing us the very best of Iceland. I didn’t just see Iceland with my eyes — I felt its warmth through his guidance and care.

Had a blast in Troll’s 8-day ring road tour and will recommend it to my friends! Iceland is full of nature’s wonders unique to the country, with volcanic rock formations and lava fields, glaciers and ice caves, geothermal baths and erupting geysers, countless waterfalls and rainbows, whales and seals and beautiful horse breeds (puffins also if you come in the right time) - definitely worth to see them all, full circle! I would say spring and autumn are good times to balance daylight activities and the chance to see the northern lights at night, and to avoid the harsh weather and road conditions in winter. It is extremely impressive how Troll manages to run tours everyday throughout the year, and even operate hotels, ice caves and glacier hikes/climbs and snorkelling etc of their own! Our tour guide (and driver!) John infuses passion and energy into the tour, in addition to his extensive knowledge of Iceland and thoughtful arrangements, which made the experience both hospitable and engaging. He also made memorable extra stops, and watched out for the northern lights for us. Hats off to John! Till next time!
