I went with Jemu Mwenda Expeditions on a 5 day Mt. Kenya trek up the Chogoria route. It was amazing. Communication from James and the office was very prompt and James worked with me and my physical level and diet to make sure I had the best experience possible. Lordwell was a fabulous guide! He knows a lot about the plants and animals and found every camouflaged chameleon along the way! The company is also committed to conservation and environmentalism. The mountain has a lot of trash but Lordwell and his team collected trash up and down the mountain which I really appreciated! Nickolas was a great cook and catered to my preferences. I highly recommend this company!

Solo Safari Trip of a lifetime! James and his team were kind and professional throughout the entire process. I arrived at a very early hour from the US and James was already waiting for me at the airport, with a smile, ready to begin our journey. Within the hour it already felt as if I was traveling with an old friend. We laughed and talked and stopped at every fruit and snack stand we could find. I never knew Kenya had some of freshest fruits grown right alongside all the villages. His land cruiser was very comfortable while still being big enough to handle any rough terrain. He always had drinks, blankets, chargers, and anything you could need in the truck. I chose the mid-range accommodations and wow - they were very luxury. Having breakfast with a view. Winding down in the cool evenings by the fire with a glass of wine. Delicious food. Amazing service. Perfect weather. Since I did the solo safari - James and I would decide each morning how we felt and would choose the day's plan from there. He was full of recommendations and knowledge. It was so fun pulling up to the parks and having the other rangers recognize and interact with him. You can tell he is widely loved and respected in the different communities and has spent his entire life dedicated to the people and animals in these parks. Jemu Expeditions is heavily focused on responsible eco-tourism and is very conscious on how our activity and presence may affect the animals. This set them apart from a lot of the other outfitters when I was doing my research. He was full of knowledge and stories. One of the many highlights was getting up-close with the last northern white rhinos in the world. I think they recognized him from his ranger days :) His enthusiasm is so contagious. I am already starting to plan my next visit with Jemu Expeditions - there is no one else I would rather experience Kenya with than these new friends. They truly care about their clients and want you to have the best experience with no stress. If you have the opportunity to meet Naomi, you'll see what I mean. She and James went above and beyond to make it the perfect week in every way. At the end, I met a small group that did the volunteer experience and they were all smiles and ready to book again. If you have a bit more time - they said it was an amazing experience. I see demand for this type of tailor-made trip (especially with a world-renowned conversationist like James) taking off - so make sure you book now! He also happens to be a very talented photographer and was able to help me capture some very special moments. I felt like I was in the good hands of a dear friend the entire time. I absolutely cannot wait to go back. I could go on-and-on but I'll leave you with a few beautiful pictures from an experience that I will remember forever. Thank you so much James and Naomi!

Jemu I’m overdue with this review of our recent expedition with Jemu in Kenya and Tanzania, but I continue to be inspired by what was a truly life changing experience. And I believe it was an experience that only Jemu can offer. His unique combination of knowledge, vision, kindness and life experience is a blessing to all who travel with him. It is at the same time all that one might expect of the best of a travel safari, with excellent accommodation, perfect organization, comfort and daily sights, but also something much more. Jemu’s deep passion for the animals and their welfare is apparent in every outing and every conversation. Through the friendship and respect he has from the staff and rangers in all the parks, he is able to provide unparalleled access to places, animals and environments that you might never otherwise see. He brought us to meet “the ladies” - the last two remaining Northern White Rhinos on Earth, who he had cared for over 9 years. Similarly with our visit to the elephant sanctuary and many other places. And he will also ignite in you the desire to take a longer term interest in the survival of these animals and the protection of their environment. I am eternally grateful to Jemu and his amazing assistant Naomi, for giving us this experience. And at a price that was surprisingly affordable - an indication of his generosity and constant philanthropy. I highly recommend organizing the safari trip of your dreams with Jemu Mwenda Expeditions!

I can’t speak highly enough about Jemu Expeditions! James and his whole team are as good as it gets. I just spent several days with him at Ol Pejeta conservancy as I was in Kenya to finish a documentary on Human Wildlife Conflict. It was a last minute trip and James was able to organize every detail which led to the trip being a smashing success. I’m a professional photographer and filmmaker and have traveled extensively in Africa and I would recommend Jemu Expeditions above and beyond anyone else i’ve ever booked with. This is high praise coming from me as my needs can be quite specific based on the work that I do when i’m there. James has an incredible love for wildlife and a deep knowledge of the landscape, all you need to do is tell him what you’d like your trip to entail and he will 100% be able to make that happen. He will go above and beyond and exceed all of your expectations. He’s also just a gem of a human being and a sheer delight to be around. I’ve had other experiences in Africa where I expressed my needs to a booking company and was quite disappointed when I arrived to find that things did not match up and as a result I did not get the shots or footage that I had hoped for. This would never happen with James, which is why I am writing this lengthy and glowing review! If you are considering a trip to Kenya (or Uganda/Rwanda as I hear he is expanded his territory) do yourself a favor and book with Jemu. You will have the trip of a lifetime! And if you are a photographer/filmmaker looking for someone who really knows how to get you what you’re looking for, James and his team will not disappoint! James’ team created a well organized custom safari for 18 days! I put all my trust in James and the whole experience was unforgettable! Not only will you receive top notch service from all of the lodges, but the expertise in wildlife and conservation from James and his team are unparalleled. James and his team are Kenyan born and raised and will provide you with unique and wonderful extras that the other safari companies simply do not. James is a true friend to my family and to wildlife and conservation. We are already planning another trip with Jemu Mwenda Expeditions so my whole family can enjoy the experience.

It becomes very hard to pinpoint a favorite part of the trip when the entire experience is spectacular. I consider myself very honored for having had a chance to visit Kenya with James as our guide. For every place we visited, James was concerned enough to make that place unforgettable. James has a warmly way of teaching people all sides of conservation. It is pretty clear his passion for a subject that has been part of his life for so long. Furthermore, that same passion becomes contagious :) James is also very honest regarding what to expect, specially when it comes to wildlife being unpredictable. Nonetheless, I assure you there is no disappointment. Quite the contrary, you would be surprised on how often you catch yourself ecstatic. Things you take home with you from this trip: a life lesson from the best instructor, a greater respect for the wildlife, friends you meet along the way, an admiration for the local communities and, finally, an overall love and appreciation for a beautiful country that will forever have a special place in your heart. I am a photographer and have been on many wonderful Safaris across Africa for years now. When I was planning my next trip, I wanted to do it a little differently. I wanted more control, flexibility and freedom. Lucky for me I came upon James and his team, who helped me do just that. He’s a private guide and driver that excelled at both. I usually do a lot of my own research pre trip in terms of places to stay and parks I want to see but James was able to recommend things completely off my radar and also lowered my budget considerably. My trip to Kenya with James and his team was flawless! He’s a very knowledge guide but also a fantastic conversationist. We had several long drives and there was never a dull moment. We visited some lesser known National Parks that had all the wildlife with none of the crowds. His insights were invaluable and being able to stop at some 'off the beaten track' places and local markets was just something you don’t get to do on a typical Safari. If you are looking for a safe and authentic experience, look no further than a trip with Jemu Expeditions. Can’t wait until next time! Thanks James :)
