Day 1: Welcome and start of the Pantanal wildlife tour We’ll welcome you at the airport or hotel and drive 100KM to get in the city of Pocone. From Pocone we continue for approx. 40km before we arrivat at Pouso Alegre lodge. Pouso Alegre has some of the most impressive birding anywhere on the planet, with huge numbers of birds seen and daily lists reaching astronomical numbers, some of the highest of any of our tours. The reason why it’s so great is the easy access to a wide variety of habitats, including rivers, wetlands, flooded pastures, gallery forest, and dry scrub. Species we can spot The huge Hyacinth Macaws, Greater Rhea, Bare-faced Curassow, Chestnut-bellied Guan, up to four ibises, the hulking Southern Screamer, Jabiru, Maguari Stork, Nacunda Nighthawk Black-collared Hawk, White Woodpecker, Gray-crested Cacholote, Great Rufous Woodcreeper, Mato Grosso Antbird, White-lored Spinetail, and Red-crested Cardinal.

After another morning at Pouso Alegre Lodge we drive a few hours south, deeper into the Pantanal. We’ll stay two nights at a lodge on the edge of the sluggish Rio Claro River, and one of the highlights here are the afternoon boat trips on the river. The boat rides are a relaxing way to see Agami and Boat-billed Herons, Blue-throated Piping-Guan, Black-collared Hawk, up to five species of kingfisher, Giant Otter, and more. As darkness nears, Band-tailed Nighthawks appear to hunt insects over the river along with huge Greater Bulldog Bats. Spotlighting for nightjars in the evening might get us Swallow-tailed and Spot-tailed Nightjars, and Pauraque.

A nearby trail passes through gallery forest along the edge of the river, which can be loaded with birds in the morning. The open nature of the forest makes it relatively easy to see them, and Band-tailed Antbird, Large-billed Antwren, and Helmeted Manakin can usually be seen without too much difficulty. A Ferruginous Pygmy-Owl imitation can often bring in large mobbing hordes of passerines, like Flavescent Warbler, Ashy-headed Greenlet, Stripe-necked Tody-Tyrant, and others. We can also target anything else we are still looking for, which could include White-naped Xenopsaris, Pale-crested Woodpecker, or Nanday Parakeet (some years). In the afternoon, we’ll have the option of having another boat ride on the river.

Early morning breakfast and we embark our boat between 6.45 -7.00 to start our search for jaguars. From the lodge it takes approx. 35 minutes to drive by boat to the three brothers river. It is the best area in the world to spot and photograph jaguars. We will spend the full day on the river in search of jaguars (approx. 10-12 hours). When all the boats return to the lodge for lunch, we enjoy a picknickstyle lunch in the prime jaguar area not wasting any time and enjoy sightings all by ourself. We will arrive back at the lodge around 5.30 – 6pm. After arriving you can refresh, relax little before we have a delicious diner together at the restaurant. Wildlife: besides jaguar we have chances on seeing giant river otters, howlerand capucin monkey’s, anaconda and a variety of birdspecies. The prime focus will be on jaguars however if we encounter beautiful wildlife we take time to enjoy it all.

Going with Pantanal Safaris tours was a dream come true. They are a 💯% Local Pantanero company in which the owner, guides , drivers, and other operators having lived with the jaguars in their area and understand their ways. Our magnificent guide Tito and boat driver Renaldo were very respectful (very important to me) in the way they followed each jaguar and maneuvered the boat so we could observe them and photograph them. I stayed at one of their lodges, Rio Claro, the first night with a boat ride, beautiful bird life, and night safari. I spent the rest of the time on their fabulous boat which was situated on a prime location on the river to quickly get out to all the rivers branches and tributaries for tracking and observing the jaguars. The boat was very comfortable and the cooks! Fabulous meals and there were three vegans they prepared scrumptious foods for them. Having wanted to go for a long time it truly was a Dream come true and I recommend them highly for your trip to the Pantanal!

I recently participated in a 10-day tour with Pantanal Safaris Tour, and the experience was fantastic! During this time, I not only photographed jaguars and caimans but also encountered the long-awaited giant anteaters and Southern Tamandua in vivid scenes. A special thanks to our guide, Herley, who was humorous and enthusiastic in his service. His keen eye helped us spot many wild animals, and the angles he chose for our stopovers were perfect for photography, allowing me to capture some truly satisfying shots. Thanks again to Pantanal Safaris Tour and guide Herley! I look forward to reuniting in the Pantanal in the future.

This is the best company! From the many emails between me and Beatriz as we found the perfect dates for my 8 day tour as I needed to get to Manaus in time to join an Amazon Riverboat tour with another company. Staying on their boat-hotel made it so much more convenient and FASTER as it is located just minutes from jaguar territory! My private cabin, meant to sleep 3, was air-conditioned with a comfortable mattress. I usually sleep poorly but not there. For the 8 day group tour (max of 6), 2 days are spent at a pousada (inn) with the hopes of seeing the giant anteater, tapir, ocelots and other land animals and birds. Then you will be driven to Port Jofre to where one of their speed boats will transfer you to their boat-hotel. Routine: 5:30am breakfast, 6am on the motor skiffs til 11:30 looking for wildlife. 12:30 lunch. Rest/siesta til 2p when you'll get back on the skiffs til 5:30. Dinner at 7. Food is plentiful, fresh and nutritious. I'd never had piranha soup before and it was so delicious I had a second cup. Really! I was incredibly lucky to witness 9 different jaguars: walking, swimming, hunting, mating. We also saw the giant river otters eating and eventually, through much work by their guides, caught glimpses of the elusive yellow anaconda tucked deep inside a hole in the riverbank. I wish to thank my guide Loester, Beatriz, Tito and Fabricio, the owner of the company.

I just returned from an outstanding eight day jaguar and wildlife tour. Our tour guide, Lester, was fantastic. We stayed a few nights at the wonderful Pousada Piuval. While we were there we did multiple land tours seeing an incredible variety of wildlife including tapir, greater anteater, lesser anteater, capybara and also a lot of great birds including Hyacinth Macaws. Then we headed to Porto Jofre and took a boat from there to our boat hotel. Over the next 5-6 days, we went on multiple small boat tours along the rivers in the area and saw a lot of wildlife including jaguars and lots of other wildlife including giant river otters, caiman, and many species of birds. Our guide was tremendous in helping us to find and locate different animals and was especially helpful with jaguars and the bird life there. I had the time and opportunity to take a number of outstanding nature and wildlife photos while I was there. Overall it was a tremendous experience. All of the staff on the boat and the guides were tremendous, very experienced and very helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this tour company and their tours to anyone interested in seeing the incredible wildlife of the Pantanal.

Being a passionate photographer I made a research for make a Jaguar Safari tour in Pantanal, and I choose Pantanal Safaris Tour. I had a tailor made tour with the help of Mrs Beatriz and I must say that rarely I had such a perfect organization and wonderfull assistance. Everything was smooth, simple , nice and perfect , as promised in the program. We were in 4 different locations and each one was as promides. Our guide , Mr Loester, was fantastic, super prepared and informed about all birds and animals that we saw, and super helpful when my wife had a little accident in her foot. We saw 18 jaguars, dozens of giant otters, hundreds of birds, thousand of jacaré ( local caimans) , plus one yellow anaconda... What should have I desired more? Planning to go back in 2027 ....

I experienced and learned about the ecosystem that is the Pantanal thanks to expert guides: Tim at Puival Pantanal for 2 days and Roger for 5 days at Porto Jofre and Mato Grosso. Their expertise and efforts made my experience rich and exciting. Last minute changes due to low waters worked to my benefit. I witnessed so many animals in their natural habitat, up close and personal. Won't forget the giant anteater or the amorous anacondas at Puival. In Porto Jofre I watched two jaguars successfully hunt for their caiman dinner; watched Patricia and her new cub cool in the river. It was an experience of a lifetime. Pantanal Safaris was a great tour and exceeded my expectations.

After a few years of communication with Fabricio we finally decided to make the Pantanal wildlife tour. I've been a wildlife photographer for years - not professional, just a great hobby - and as all our previous wildlife tours were private I was hesitating between a shorter private tour and a longer group tour (to keep a budget). Finally I decided for a 10-day-group-tour and it turned out to be a good decision. We are interested in all animals - not only jaguars - so I asked for a good balance between dry land and river programs. 2 nights in Piuval, 5 nights in Santa Rosa and 2 nights in Pouso Alegre exactly matched my wishes. I know it is not so easy with a group tour - group members can have different preferences and wishes - but Fabricio and Beatriz planned the tour very well. When on the tour we were also very lucky with our guide Roger. He is a smart and fine guy and he managed to provide an excellent Pantanal tour. It was not an easy task - remember it was a group tour and I'm really not an ordinary client (because of my photography expectations and previous private tours experience). Roger simply has the main features of a great wildlife guide - he likes the animals and he also likes his clients. He actively found and arranged for a lot of good photography opportunities for me - from jaguars and tapirs to tiny birds like black-capped donacobius or vermilion flycatcher. Thanks, Roger, I won't forget. Accommodation and food in all 3 lodges were simply excellent. It's true the facilities at Pouso Alegre are more basic compared with other lodges but the rooms are still very clean and functional, including AC. On the other side at Pouso Alegre you will find a huge number of wild animals and birds directly inside the lodge - more than in other lodges although which also have rich wildlife at your doors. And you'll feel there as at a running cattle ranch - so feeling more in a real original Pantanal. Maybe you'll meet the owner, herpetologist Luiz, and he will show you some snakes typical for this place - everything in Pouso Alegre is more personal and original ... If I'm so lucky to be back in Pantanal I definitely want to spend a few days in Pouso Alegre again. To sum up - we saw and photographed a lot of animals, from the big ones to the tiny ones, and there are still a number of animals not seen or not photographed yet. Which is a good reason to return to Pantanal. And when the decision is made then I'll ask Pantanal Safaris to organize the tour, and I'll express my preferences to have Roger as a guide and to visit Pouso Alegre once more. I highly recommend Pantanal, Pantanal Safaris, Roger and all three lodges mentioned above, especially Pouso Alegre, to all wildlife lovers and photographers. You won't regret. The place is worth your money and time.

Extemely experienced local agents(guides and boat captains) at a very reasonable price! From booking to airport pick up and throughout the tour(8 days of Jaguars and Wildlife sightings), everything was very well taken care of. We have very good sightings of jaguars on many occasions thanks to the experienced guide and captain who can read the behaviour of the big cats and best positioning the boat, without causing disturbance to the cats, hence we had many quality sightings compare to others. In fact.I am already planning to return to do the bird watching with Pantanal Safaris the next season! Nobody will know Pantanal and the wildlife here better than locals, and their humble approach to mother nature deserve our respect. Many thanks again for Julio, Ivandro and Juma for the excellent works.

If you’re going to do the pantanal right this is the company to go with 1000%. Tito was our guide on a 9 day safari and he was amazing. We saw the big 5 of the pantanal including 13 jaguars and 3 cubs! They know where to position the cars and boats to get the best shot of the animals. Tito got just as hyped as we did for all the animals! Thanks for an amazing time!! If you want to film animals in a small group this is your company to go with

I spent 4 days (11-12 h each) in the boat (stayed in Santa Rosa lodge) and then 2.5 days at safari (Puival lodge), always with guide Herley. He is very good: attentive to client's needs, able to spot wildlife day and night, friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks of him I made a lot of excellent photos. Food was excellent in both lodges, room in Puival exceeded all expectations. Recommendation is to take sun seriously: large dark sunglasses is a must, especially on boat.
