This is probably the most beautiful route up Kilimanjaro. The second most popular option among the climbers, Machame route, also known as “the Whiskey Route”, offers a wide variety of views, landscapes and experiences.
The accommodation on the way up and down is strictly camping (mobile tents) only. Camps along the trek are favorably located for smooth and gradual acclimatization transition process. On the 3rd day Machame Route converges with Lemosho and Umbwe at Barranco camp.
Not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health

The trip of a lifetime experience! I am so grateful that we booked with Kilimanjaro Bucketlist Expedition. I had heard great things about the company on Trip Advisor and they did not disappoint. The entire process from the initial inquiry over the email through the end was seamless and so professional. The team was very accommodating to changes we made to our private tour and responded quickly despite the time difference. Our guide Justin, was excellent and knowledgeable about all the flora and fauna and culture. Justin's knowledge of the animals and ability to see them from a distance is a top class. We feel so grateful that he was our guide. Justin also kept the car in good condition. Despite the dusty conditions, each morning the car would look good as new

I climbed this route in February 2026 and from the initial checks on our packing gear to our final goodbyes I have only the highest praise for Tim Zach and his amazing team. Even before arriving in Africa, Tim dealt with our many online queries promptly and completely. On arrival we were met with a friendliness that immediately put us at ease and lasted for the duration of our trip. The attention to detail and to our safety was reassuring and the good humour of all Tim’s porters, guides etc made it a very memorable trip and certainly lived up to my bucketlist expectations. I summited on the morning of my 60th Birthday, what a memory, what a team! I should also add that I travelled onwards to Zanzibar and Tim Zach put me in contact with his colleagues there who were fantastic with airport transfers, taxis in Zanzibar and local tours also. I wholeheartedly recommend Kilimanjaro Bucketlist Expeditions. If you get the chance, just book it, you won’t regret it!!

Climbing Kilimanjaro was one of the greatest experiences of our lives – and this amazing team made it possible. From the very first day, we felt safe, supported, and incredibly well taken care of. The guides were professional, knowledgeable, and truly inspiring. They constantly checked on our health and motivated us during the toughest moments. The entire crew – from porters to cooks – did an outstanding job. The food was surprisingly excellent, and everything was perfectly organized. We reached the summit thanks to their dedication and encouragement. We highly recommend this team to anyone planning to climb Kilimanjaro!

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro was a major bucket list dream for me — and the tour operator made this experience absolutely exceptional. From the very first contact until our return, everything was handled professionally and smoothly. The entire team was incredibly friendly, experienced, and supportive throughout the journey. The guides were outstanding — always prioritizing safety and proper acclimatization, while also motivating us mentally during the most challenging moments. The equipment, food, and overall organization were excellent. I felt safe, well-prepared, and truly taken care of at all times. They also paid attention to individual needs, which made a big difference. Reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise was an unforgettable and emotional moment — and it wouldn’t have been possible without this dedicated and passionate team. I highly recommend this operator to anyone planning to climb Kilimanjaro. Truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience!
