• Unforgettable Trekking Adventure in Kyrgyzstan!

  Our trekking trip in Kyrgyzstan was absolutely incredible from start to finish! The organisation was fantastic — every detail was perfectly planned, making it easy for us to relax and truly enjoy the experience. The hikes were breathtaking, with stunning scenery around every turn, and we loved staying in the cozy yurt camps under the stars. A huge thank you to our amazing guides, Azi and Asan, who made this trip so special. They were knowledgeable, kind, and went above and beyond to make sure everyone felt safe, supported, and included. Their energy, humour, and warmth made every day memorable. We also enjoyed delicious meals, traditional Kyrgyz dancing, and so many moments of laughter and fun along the way. • Incredible Mountain Hiking and Hosts

  We had an incredible eight day journey through the mountains with our two terrific guides Azi and Asan! The hiking was challenging but we were rewarded with incredible vistas, mountains, glaciers, and scenery. The Yurt camps were cozy and we were well taken care of by our Kyrgyz hosts throughout! Was a memorable experience and I would recommend it.

  Challenging hiking, especially with the elevation but the views were totally worth the effort and Diamox really helped with any altitude sickness. We've been on multi day hikes in a few countries and the scenery was some of the most spectacular we've seen. Our guide Osmon was knowledgeable and reserved, once he got to know us he came out of his shell and we found him to be a great person and gave us a real insight into life in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. Other than the hiking and hospitality, one of the highlights of the trip was being shown the school in Sary Mogul on the first day of term - seeing everyone dressed in their smartest clothes and showing off the performance they've practiced all summer.

  Our tour guide Ernis is such a fantastic guide and an emphatic human being. We really enjoyed our trip and felt always take care of at any time by all of the people. While trekking, we got to know many insights and backgrounds of this amazing country. We highly recommend this trek and would do it all over again. M&M.

  Good organization and spectacular views every day of the trip. Also they have vegetarian food option which is a big plus. Our guides Ernis and Dastan accompanied us all the time and took care of all group members including whose who was slower hikers. Separate thanks for planning an extra short transfer on a car on a short but boring part along car road.

  We had an excellent experience on this 8-day trek through the Alay Mountains. The landscapes were impressively diverse — from alpine lakes and glacial peaks to red rock canyons and wide green valleys. Each day brought completely different terrain. The yurt stays were a real highlight: comfortable, authentic, and the traditional Kyrgyz food was outstanding. Meeting local shepherds along the way gave us good insight into the nomadic way of life. Big thanks to our guides Ernis and Dastan: they knew the area inside out, kept things fun, and handled everything smoothly. Their local knowledge and easy-going nature made all the difference.

  We did the "Best of Alay Mountains" trek in August, and it was the most beautiful part of our Central Asia trip. The hike is fantastic, and compared to European countries, you really still feel like you're on the road "remotely" - even if the region is currently increasing in tourism. The trip was well organized and it was very convenient that our backpacks were transported on horses during the hike. Our two guides, Emil and Abish, were always helpful and eager. The nomadic families whose yurts we stayed in were very welcoming. Overall, it was a physically challenging hike (not least due to the altitude), but at the same time also comfortable because we stayed in (partially) heated yurts and were provided with three meals and numerous snacks and sweets daily.

• Great Reviews, Terrible Reality: Our Experience with Visit Alay

  TL;DR: Visit Alay looks great online but was a huge disappointment in reality. Poor organisation, misleading group size, unclear payment rules, inadequate hygiene, and zero empathy when several of us fell sick (including me). Instead of care, our guide asked for a review” – so, here it is. Kyrgyzstan is stunning, but I would not recommend booking with Visit Alay. When my partner and I first stumbled upon Visit Alay, we were thrilled. 4.9 stars on Tripadvisor? Groups capped at 10-11 people? Everything sounded great! We thought we had found the ideal company for our first trip to Kyrgyzstan. If you’re here for a feel-good travel tale, this is not it. Let’s begin with the low point: Several of us fell ill during the trip, from contaminated food or water, and toilets at camp were left filthy with diarrhea residue. I was hit the hardest. Imagine stomach cramps, vomiting, nausea, fever, and flu-like joint pain all at once. On the day before the Lenin Peak hike, I was bedridden, drenched in sweat, freezing, and holding on for dear life - feeling like I’d been run over by a truck. While I was lying in bed trying to consult my doctor back home, our primary guide, Oshman, walked in. Did he check on me? Barely. Instead, as my partner was explaining my symptoms to the doctor over the phone, Oshman interrupted, not with help, but to remind us to “leave a good review.” When I needed a doctor, we were told to wait 1.5 hours for a cab since they wanted to “find a good car, like a Mercedes, with air conditioning.” That turned into 3 hours of being dragged out of bed several times with false alarms, only to end up in an old Japanese car with no A/C for a 3 to 4 hour drive while I burned with fever. And the chaos didn’t stop there. A family member with a baby was added to our car at the last minute. Once we had finally left, the car suddenly turned back halfway because the guides realised they had forgotten some guests’ sleeping bags that needed to go back to Osh. When we finally arrived, I wasn’t taken straight to a hospital; first, they dropped off the woman, then drove us to the Visit Alay office where, instead of concern, we were urged to collect our stored belongings because they were “closing soon”. No empathy, no responsibility. Money Before departure, Visit Alay sent us an email instructing guests to bring cash: either Euros (preferably large notes) or USD. We brought USD in 20-dollar bills since they only specified note size for Euros. When we arrived, they refused our money, saying smaller bills had a “lower rate.” Instead of acknowledging their lack of clarity, they insisted we pay using an online link. After we paid, they apologised with a: “New employees wrote the email.” Not What We Paid For We had booked with the promise of a small group. Instead, we were merged with another group of 10, meaning 20+ people plus guides and horsemen. This meant that food (especially protein) ran short, sleeping conditions worsened, and what could have been tranquil evenings turned into noisy nights of local guides partying with guests. Visit Alay advertises: “As evening falls, enjoy dinner under the stars, soaking in the tranquility of the remote mountain setting before resting in the cozy comfort of the yurt.” Reality? Dinner (and everything else) consistently delayed with no further clarification, competition for showers, pressure on the accommodation, and 06:00 wake-up calls after nights of loud chatter. The Guides Our secondary guide, Shadi, deserves all the praise: warm, helpful, and genuinely caring. But Oshman, the primary guide, seemed disengaged, uninformed, and largely absent from responsibility. He walked ahead on hikes without checking on the group, rarely communicated plans, and often behaved more like another guest than the leader we depended on. Traveling in Kyrgyzstan is beautiful and worth it, but I cannot in good conscience recommend this company.
