This 3-hour Jewish Budapest tour follows the varied history of a thriving Jewish community that made up nearly one-fourth of the Hungarian capital’s population before WWII. While exploring Budapest’s Jewish District, our Jewish Studies scholar guide will explain how from the 18th century, Budapest’s Jews played a profound role in the social and economic modernization of the city. As we consider the essential cultural contributions of Budapest’s Jewish citizens, we also reflect on their harrowing persecution, culminating in 20th-century genocide in the Holocaust. As we pass by kosher pastry shops and restaurants, we will ponder the ways the community and its culture are being revitalized today.

Orsolya was an excellent guide, who brought the stories & the history alive. She has a deep understanding of the Jewish culture and history of Budapest. She has excellent knowledge of the culinary and was able to weave this into the tour. We took her recommendations on board and the “flodni” cake was delicious!!! Our family thoroughly enjoyed this 3hour walking tour, the time just whizzed by!!

This tour was amazing! Our guide, Orsolya, was so very knowledgable and provided us with so many historical facts and cultural details. We walked away from this experience with a better understanding of the Jewish experience in Budapest. The sites and museums were interesting, and having a guide explaining things to us was such a great addition to the overall experience and provided a deeper meaning to the standard tourist experience. Orsolya happily answered questions, and was able to direct us to other points of interest in Budapest.

Our tour was enhanced by our knowledgeable tour guide, Orsolya. The courtyard and Tree of Life were an unexpected feature, but the synagogue itself was the highlight of the tour ….beautiful with so much history. We saw and learned so much that we never would have experienced if we had tried to walk around the Jewish quarter on our own.

I recently participated in the Jewish History and Heritage Walking Tour of Budapest, and it was an exceptional experience. Our tour guide, Agi, was fantastic. Her extensive knowledge and passion for the history of the Jewish community, from past to present, made the tour incredibly informative. One of the highlights was visiting the three synagogues and the Jewish Museum. Agi provided detailed explanations about each location and the surrounding neighborhood, enriching our understanding of their historical and cultural significance. By the end of the tour, we felt we had gained a deep and comprehensive understanding of the Jewish community in Budapest. I highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in the rich history and heritage of this remarkable community.

Endre was the most knowledgeable tour guide we have ever had. He brought us to so many informative spots that told the story of the Jewish Quarter. He was attentive, helpful, and highly intelligent. We are so lucky to have met him and had him as our guide.
