South Slope of the Acropolis of Athens
As in every good story, everything begins with an introduction. It's not easy to tell the story of one of the most historically rich cities in the world. Yet, we aim to give our guests a broader perspective. That's why, at the beginning of the tour, we offer a concise lesson on the creation of human civilization, and then we place ancient Greek civilization — and Athens in particular — within that framework, so that people can truly understand its importance and contribution.
Theatre of Dionysus
The first monument we will see on our way up to the Acropolis is the Theatre of Dionysus — the first theatre in human history. This is where theatre and drama as a practice were born, and where the earliest plays — tragedies and comedies — were performed in front of the Athenian public. These plays were written by some of the most famous writers of all time, including Sophocles, Euripides, and Aeschylus.

It is a breathtaking experience, but well worth the effort. The guide is so knowledgeable and considerate of his charges.

The best tour guide in Athens for those who seek not a usual tour. Xaris is a well established and down-to-earth guy, who takes the historic experience in another level.

The tour was very nice and the guide very knowledgeable. Prepare for a lot of historical information at a slow pace through the Acropolis 🙂 Our tour took about 3 and a half hours, with very detailed information about each place

When I booked The Acropolis of Athens Historical Tour for History Enthusiasts for myself and my 17 year old daughter I described it to her: “It seems to be an almost 3 hour university style lecture on The Acropolis and its place in history, philosophy and politics.” Harris delivered beyond that expectation. As people who look for the the “why” of everything, we feel privileged to have received his wondrously wide breadth of knowledge and understanding of the history of the development of The Acropolis, the people involved and the impact it’s had from inception to present day. Harris is a personable guide who made a point to connect with us and make the information he shared relevant to our interests. I can’t imagine a better way to experience The Acropolis.

Really enjoyed my Acropolis Historical tour. Brought Athens to life with not only its historical, but cultural timeline importance. So much information to cover, but carefully organised by a very knowledgeable guide.

Do not take this tour if you just want some fun facts and nice photo opportunities! This tour means business. It does a deep dive into Greek history, takes into account all influences from east and west over the ages and how rulers, armies, technological inventions shaped living and society in Greece. Then you learn, how actions of a single person 2500 years ago can be the starting point of a development, that still shapes it works today. All this connected of course to the monuments, temples and excavating around and atop the akropolis. Or tour guide was exceptionally invested in the telling of the story of the Akropolis, but not only that - he succeeded in connecting the historical site with a sense of human history, democratic ideals, personal responsibility and a general sense of humanity, that brought the whole experience to life in a way I wouldn't have thought possible before. Please take this tour if you are seriously interested in a learning experience!

Wonderful tour and great comprehensive information. Everything really tied together for me between Byzantine empire, Ottoman Empire, the transformation that the Acropolis has gone through. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants really in depth information about everything!! I did take my 11 year old with me and I think he was great for the most part, but they do loose interest after 2 hours, so be aware of that.

I was in Athens to attend a course with some colleagues, and my partner booked us a guided tour with Athens Historic Experience: an incredible experience! The guide was knowledgeable, professional and passionate. He didn’t just give us dates and facts, but also explained the political, social and cultural developments in Greece, and in Athens in particular. A critical and ethical view of history, as well as being extremely knowledgeable. What’s more, the guide was also friendly and showered us with sweets ; ) Perfect organisation, punctual, we didn’t have to queue at all and we had an authentic experience. Well done, Athens Historic Experience.
