Experience the secrets and the essence behind Bolivian gastronomy in the heart of Cochabamba, Bolivia's gastronomical capital.

We professionally train local women who have suffered from gender violence and others in vulnerable social situations to guide you through the process of preparing a gourmet 3 course meal using local ingredients and recipes.

These women will introduce you to Bolivian cuisine, the way their grandmothers taught them, the traditional way, bringing you an unforgettable and authentic experience.

Learn about the history of traditional recipes, taste local ingredients, learn how to peel potatoes using only a knife!... All this while supporting these women in Bolivia to value their work and their knowledge! Your payment for this activity goes towards helping these women sustain themselves and their families during this difficult time.

What To Expect

You will learn how to make a traditional 3 course Bolivian meal, guided by one of the women we professionally train. All of our guides are women who have suffered from domestic violence, and who are in the process of recovering. Our workshops not only give you an intimate insight into Bolivian culture through the lens of its rich and colourful gastronomy, but also support these women economically and psychologically. We believe empowerment is about seeing the value of our skills and abilities, and therefore of ourselves. Guiding these workshops therefore shows these women the power they truly hold to move forward in their lives. The experience is a fun, joyful and overall celebrative one, where cultures entwine, and delicious food and cocktails are shared. To us, there is no better way to support such an important cause!

  • An unforgettable culinary experience in Cochabamba!

We were lucky to participate in amazing cooking classes organized by an initiative that empowers local women, and it was one of the best experiences of our trip! Our teacher, Berta, was simply wonderful: kind, attentive, with endless patience and a great passion for Bolivian cuisine. He guided us step by step as we prepared two delicious traditional dishes—silpancho and trancapecho—and made us feel at home from the get-go. She was accompanied by a French volunteer from the organization, who was also charming and helped create a warm and fun Mood. We spent more than three hours cooking, learning, laughing and sharing. More than a class, it was an unforgettable human and cultural encounter. We were delighted to learn that by participating we were supporting an organization that works for female empowerment and the preservation of local culinary traditions. We definitely recommend this experience to anyone who visits Cochabamba and wants to connect with its people, culture and authentic taste. Thank you Berta for everything, and thank you to the organization for this beautiful initiative!

This is such a great organization with a commendable cause! We loved the personal attention and friendly staff. Made Saltenas which were the best we’d eaten in Bolivia. A must-do when visiting Cochabamba!

I experienced a Salteña cooking class at adelante mujer last week and loved the entire experience. You can participate actively throughout the entire evening, whilst getting served a great variety of awesomely refreshing cocktails. Everyone is kind and fun, Sara - the founder - is a wonderful inspiration for anyone willing to take action in changing the world for the better. I would do another class with adelante mujer and recommend the experience to anyone.

My sister and I were able to take this class and we both LOVED it. Sara (the person in charge that created these workshops and came up with the idea to help and empower Bolivian women) was able to squeeze us in since I found out about this class a little late. I am so glad she did because I have always wanted to learn how to make saltenas. The women that taught us were knowledgeable and the saltenas at the end tasted great. Plus they had some Bolivian snacks, fresh fruit juice, and cocktails to share with us while we were cooking. It was an amazing experience. Everyone should do this workshop!

Last Sunday I took a cooking class (making traditional Bolivian salteñas) with Adelante Mujer. I just arrived in Cochabamba, so it was nice to be able to get to know some people. Also the idea behind Adelante Mujer I really support. We started from scratch with preparing all the ingredients; cutting the meat and the hongos (mushrooms), potatoes, onions, etc. Thereafter we cooked everything and made the 'dough', whilst in the meantime we were explained the origen of products, techniques, history, etc. Whilst the content of the salteña was in the fridge, we were taught to make a local cocktail, chicha. After that we went on to roll the dough, fill it and fold it the empanada way. After they went into the oven we ate them, really good! A nice and educational day!
