Agios Nektarios Monastery
It is one of the largest orthodox monasteries in Greece and throughout the Balkans. The Holy Trinity Monastery with the church of Agios Nektarios is one of the top sights in Aegina. It attracts believers who want to worship, pray, and heal. Whether you are a fan of religious tourism or not, it is worth visiting if you are on the island. Agios Nektarios is one of the modern saints of the Orthodox Church and has performed miracles as long as he lived. The monastery that exists today functioned in 1904 when he wanted a place to spend his last years. He settled on the island 12 years before his death, while the monastery was already operating by some nuns. He was proclaimed Saint 40 years after his death because of his ecclesiastical work. Just down of the Monastery there is the new church of Saint Nektarios, one of the biggest churches in Balkans. The enormous octagonal church completed in 1999, has superb mosaics and marble carving.

The trip led by Vivien was well planned, interesting and adequate time was spent at each site. Vivien was very knowledgeable about the history of the island and each of the sites visited. The mini bus was comfortable and the driver was very good. We enjoyed the whole experience and the small group were friendly people. A lovely day out.

It’s a nice overview of Aegina island. We were picked up at the port and we drove to the Monastery of the Holy Trinity. That was a rather religious experience. More than we expected. There is a monastery and large church in honor of a modern Eastern Orthodox saint. Next we went to the Temple of Aphaia. This was the highlight of the tour for us. Entry of 10€ was not included in the tour. The temple is well preserved and we enjoyed it as it was less crowded than the Acropolis in Athens. Next we drove to a seaside village where it would have been nice to swim if the weather was better. We enjoyed a simple lunch and a coffee instead. Finally we went back to the port and commercial hub of Aegina and tried many pistachio products. All along the tour, our guide Maria gave us an overview of the island.

Great way to see the island if you are coming over on the ferry for a day trip. Picked us up right at the ferry.

Had a great time with Leon as our guide today. Very nice new van, very comfortable. He taught us about the history of Aegina while driving us along the shore road, then into the interior of the island. We walked a trail to visit a few of the 365 very old small churches on the high ground of the island. We visited the monastery of Nektarius and learned about its history. We learned a bit about how pistachios are grown and stopped at a shop to buy some, and were treated to some snacks and drinks. Finally we visited the Temple of Aphaia, and stopped for lunch at the shore. A great day that gave us a little taste of island life. The colors of the ocean are very beautiful. This was my 13 year old son’s favorite day of our trip to Athens and the Peloponnese. Recommend using the restroom on the ferry on the way to Aegina as there are no restroom stops early in the tour.

Guide was very informative about the various stops as well as with regards to the history of the island and area. At each stop there was time to explore, wander around and take photos. We very much enjoyed the private tour. Thank you.

Great tour to Aegina! Our guide, Pandelic, was flexible with the meeting time because of the ferry we were taking from Athens. Being a native of Aegina, he was very knowledgeable of the history of the island and a had a lot of great recommendations for shopping and restaurants. We were given plenty of time to see the sites on the island without feeling rushed or being stressed about dealing with the bus schedules to get to the sights on the eastern side of the island. The Temple of Aphaia and the church of St Nectarios were worth seeing! And lots of delicious pistachio products!

Pick up was confusing in terms of instructions as we were not familiar with the area but the agent had it sorted and we were on our way. Perfect day trip from athens. Vanessa our guide was fantastic and as an archaeology graduate she provided lots of background to what we were seeing and why it was important. Sitting seaside at the end of the day was amazing. Swimming in the sea was spectacular.

It was good not only to see the famous temple and church but also spectacular views , local villages and the beaches. Our local guide was able to share his detailed knowledge of the island in an interesting and informative way and we enjoyed the pistacho experience, especially the ice cream! The tour was good. Pity we couldn’t have shared the transport with 2 others as it was expensive.
