Shweshwe is a South African fabric that is steeped in a rich history. It is also made from 100% cotton, which makes jewellery we’ll be crafting hypoallergenic. The story behind our brand is also a bittersweet one that celebrates the designer’s mom. There will also be some local tunes to set the tone during our class.

This fabric jewellery workshop takes place at my home studio in Bo Kaap, Here we’ll get to know each other over a beverage - coffee, tea, juice, etc - and some local beats. We’ll also get acquainted with a proudly South African fabric called shweshwe, which I'll show you how to manipulate into bold and bright jewellery pieces - a necklace and a bracelet or 2 necklaces or 2 bracelets. What you make you get to take! All of these are great as gifts or wearable souvenirs. There will also be a variety of readymade shweshwe jewellery from our range available for purchase at a 10% discount - subject to availability. Cash and card payments are accepted. Please note that the workshop takes 1.5 hours for up to 3 guests. An additional 30min will need to be added per guest above 3. Eg: 3 guests - 1.5hrs 4 guests - 2hrs 5 guest - 2.5hrs Can’t wait to get my make on with you!

What an awesome experience! Thandie was very engaging, explained the technique in detail, and was unbelievably patient as we made mistakes and had to restart. We went down to the VA waterfront after the class and in less than an hour I was asked where I had purchased my necklace. They couldn’t believe I had made it myself. I highly recommend this class.
