Orchha Fort
After morning pickup from your hotel lobby in Orchha, drive to palace complex in the comfort of a private vehicle. On a seasonal island on the bank of the Betwa River, which has been surrounded by a battlement wall, stands a huge palace-fort. The fort consists of several connected buildings erected at different times, the most noteworthy of which is the Raja Mahal. The Jahangir Mahal built on a rectangular base and is relieved by a circular tower at each corner surmounted by a dome is the marvel even today. The stunning beauty of the city is characterized by delicate chhatris (elevated pavilions) and intricate trellis work. Also get a look at the two-story brick palace of Rai Praveen Mahal, built in remembrance of a 16th-century poet and musician. You may become awestruck upon seeing the prismatic light of sun rays slipping through skilfully carved recesses in the main hall and other chambers.
Chhatris Cenotaphs
Visit Chhatris of Orchha. The Chhatris or the cenotaphs in orchha are another of the many historical tourist attractions in Orchha. These are memorials of the rulers of the Bundels and are laid down in a row of 14 along the beautiful banks of the Betwa River. It reflects a wonderful sight though to some it looks uncanny. Drive to the Laxminarayan temple, This temple displays a perfect and unique mix of temple and fort architecture. Though the temple is dedicated the Goddess Laxmi. Drive back to your hotel to take a break for lunch (at your own expanse) and some rest, you can also choose to stay in the bazaars to try some of the local restaurants.

Orchha is a place to relish amazing ancient architecture. Chaturbhuj Mandir stands out as a grand castle while Jehangir Mahal is an epitome of architectural magnificence. Laxmi Mandir and Raja Mahal are also nice and should be on the itinerary. Include the chhatris at river bank too. Overall it was a 1 day trip from Jhansi that ended well with sound & light show in evening at the fort. Orchha visit is strongly recommended for people who are interested in history or architecture. There's a famous Raja Ram Mandir too for the religious ones.

We had a kind of long tour of MP (17 days) starting from Indore to Gwalior, spread over northeast part of MP. MP has mixture of attractions which at most places, are well maintained and preserved! Parking and washrooms are available at most of the locations, that’s highly appreciated! Guide services at most places are available, however, like elsewhere in India, less dignified! Orccha was a bit of surprise in our tour as we had minimal expectations! We reached Orccha around 10.30 am and went straight to Rajaram Mandir. Chaturbhuj Mandir is just annexed to this. One reaches the Fort of Orccha by crossing the road and one can easily walk all the way! However, for needy, Rikshwa is available for ₹10/person! All these places are well preserved and well maintained! One should take guide services which give a better understanding and experience! One has scope for bargain deals! Make it a point to go to the terraces of Chaturbhuj Temple for the stunning views of the fort and the other monuments in Orccha. It took almost 4 hours for a leisurely walk through these magnificent places! We had lunch at MP tourism’s Betwa restaurant which was quite good for a bit higher prices! From here we went to visit Chatris (cenotaphs, around 3 kms away ) and Betwa River, where boating facilities are available! Lastly we visited Laxmi temple which is situated on a hilltop and has wonderful views of Orccha! It was sunset by the time we started for Jhansi and had great experience overall!! So in nutshell, one should reserve minimum 6, Preferably 8 hours to visit all the monuments and one should do it! I’ve avoided describing details of monuments which are available on google!

Orchha is such a unique and stunning town! There is a lot to see and including lots of spectacular places only a local would know how to find. This friendly family has understanding of tourists needs and a genuine commitment to local community development. We have been to India four times and explored right across the country and we couldn't recommend this experience enough, it is truly an India highlight. Something my husband and I will never forget and we will definitely be back!
