Salerno
Once a collection of fishing villages, Italy's magnificent Amalfi Coast is now a world-class tourist destination. But as is often the case, with great beauty come great problems. Too many vehicles, crippling traffic, too few parking areas, and hairpin curves that make two-way traffic unbearable, are just a few of the challenges faced by Italy's Amalfi Coast in recent years. This day trip from Rome allows you to travel smarter, without sacrificing on comfort or style. Visiting the Amalfi Coast by high-speed train means you'll not only enjoy extra legroom and complimentary beverages and snacks, but you'll also cut travel time to the coast in HALF. You'll step off the train and onto the pier where your Amalfi Coast adventure begins.
Positano
In an intimate group, your local expert will lead the way from the train to the ferryboat. Once seated, enjoy a one-hour cruise from Salerno to Positano the UNESCO World Heritage site of once-fishing villages-turned stomping ground for the world's elite. You'll step back onto terra ferma to explore Positano, the jewel of the Amalfi Coast. Choose whether to have a morning swim or explore the dozens of chic boutiques and artisan shops, then enjoy a leisurely lunch before returning to the pier for a short ride to our next destination, the town of Amalfi. It’s no wonder why this stunning coastline takes its name from Amalfi. This bustling town is where the action is, packed with shops, beaches, restaurants, and picture-perfect photo ops. Your guide will provide you with a short orientation stroll including an overview of the 11th-century cathedral and a limoncello tasting at one of the local shops, after which you can enjoy some free time shopping and exploring or hit the beach.

Tour was fantastic! This area is beautiful and I appreciate having a guide to give us some information and to answer questions but then also to allow us to explore on our own. Georgia was an amazing guide and was instrumental in helping get luggage returned that was lost on our flight. She went above and beyond to help.

Our guides were fantastic, one local and was able to direct us with recommendations once at the destination. Stay on Positano was too brief however, not enough time to do much before it was time to meet and depart.

Tour was very well planned and run. Meeting at Rome train station was easy and organized and they provided us our tickets. Meeting tour leader in Salerno was equally easy & efficient. Tour guide was informative, personable, and fun to be with. Sites were beautiful and lots of information our different sites in historical and geographic context. Would have liked more time in Positano, but ferry was late (outside control of tour group). Will recommend to friends.

We went in early September, met up with a guide at Rome's train station who took us to the platform for our train, and guided us to the train carriage - and when we arrived at Salerno, another guide met us. He walked us to the ferry, recommended we sat on the upper level for the best views, and during the ride he pointed out various sights to see, and their history. The ferry stopped at Amalfi but we didn't get off then - we continued to Positano, where we had an hour to explore and see some sights. We boarded the ferry again and rode back to Amalfi, where again our guide left us to explore on our own, after recommending some not-to-be-missed spots. We had more time for lunch, an unforgettable Sorbetto al Limone, and capturing memories. After the ferry back, he walked us back to the train station, and sat with us until we boarded the high speed train back to Rome. Again, he helped us find the correct carriage. It was a perfect day's trip - although in hindsight, it would've been nice to have a little longer in each town (I heard you can rent a boat to take you to the grottos near Amalfi and Positano), and to have some extra time in Salerno.
