This is a wonderful insight in the Limerick writer Frank McCourt. Told by a local historian Beano, who grew up on the same street as Frank you can't get any closer to the story. There will be a chance to question your specialist guide Beano as you travel & at the end of the tour. This is ideal for those interested in literature, academic & those wishing to learn more about the unique Limerick spirit!

We came to Limerick to learn more about Frank McCourt. Frank is a distant relative whom we had the opportunity to meet in 2006. We wanted to have more of a sense of where he grew up. While enjoying the beauty of contemporary Limerick, we were also able to move back in time with the help of our guide, Joe Coleman. He brought to life the places and times experienced by Frank. His depth of knowledge, the result of diligent personal research, brought the Limerick of Frank's day into focus. He made the tour an exceptional and worthwhile experience! We look forward to learning more about Limerick and Ireland through a book he has written, Down by the Bare Place.

Having listened to "Angela's Ashes" 3 times, I was looking forward to connecting my image of Frank McCourt's Limerick to the real places and Joe Coleman exceeded even my hopes! We had a great interaction and it was more like a visit with a friend than a sterile tour. I can highly recommend this tour, but with the caveat that you need to be familiar with the book to get much out of it.

Excellent walk around Limerick with our tour guide John. My wife and I were the only two on the walk and so it was like a private tour for us. John is a native of Limerick and was very knowledgeable about Frank McCourt’s experiences growing up in Limerick. It definitely helps to have read the book, or at least seen the movie as John’s descriptions then made Angela’s Ashes come to life. He also dropped in interesting other bits about Limerick along the way. Highly recommended. Patrick and Sandi

John, our guide, was really great! Super knowledgeable about the milestone areas around Limerick specific to the boom Angela's Ashes. Though I had not yet read the book he had a knack for story telling in a way that was susceptible for all to follow along easy. He led the group with confidence and courtesy. Would highly recommend John as the guide for this tour!

Our guide John was absolutely terrific! Having grown up in the area, John knew the place of each detail in the memoir. He also knew the history of Limerick and understood the people who make Angela’s Ashes a masterpiece of storytelling literature. John retold parts of the story with humility and respect. It was a pleasure to walk back through the streets once walked by the McCourt family as they went about their days and lived through their sufferings and their triumphs.

What an incredible tour! Our guide, Joe Coleman, was fantastic and offered us an insight into the book which I couldn’t have imagined. We traced the steps of Frank and his family, making us feel as if we were back in time. Besides the important sites from the book, we also explored parts of the city which were featured in the film, and other important historical sites of Limerick. Joe was knowledgeable and entertaining, and we couldn’t imagine a better guide. Would definitely recommend this tour for those who have read the book or watched the film.
