Don’t do Johannesburg without doing this tour! Really easy to work with. Great personality. Super knowledgeable. Really happy we made the time for this experience! It was fun to drive and walk through Soweto (without it feel like an icky, “poverty” tour); the tour was extremely tasteful and, more importantly, respectable by a member from the community.

Our tour of Soweto and the Apartheid Museum was excellent. Right up front, Thabang gently explored how much detail we wanted and what level of "filtering" we wanted (he could see we had teenagers with us). I greatly appreciated him checking on that and we let him know that we were interested in understanding the full reality of Soweto without filters. He delivered a very informative and educational experience including exposure to the different dimensions of Soweto (upper, middle and lower "class" areas). He shared the reality and challenges facing Soweto (and S. Africa more broadly) without being negative or depressing. We especially appreciated the opportunity to stroll through different parts of Soweto and speak with local residents. While experiencing the depth of poverty in parts of Soweto can be uncomfortable, at no time did we feel we were not safe. For those interested in going deeper than a visit to the Nelson Mandela house and the Museum (which you will also do on this tour), Thabang and Tsalanang Tours are the one of for you! PS - it was super convenient as Thabang picked us up and dropped us off at hour hotel....

Thabang was a great guide during our trip to Soweto he was a wealth of knowledge and very happy to answer any questions. The itinerary was great and this tour was the perfect way to see some highlights during our brief stay in Johannesburg. We also got to have a chat with a local living in one of the communities in Soweto and get a greater insight into their living conditions. The communication was excellent with the team getting in touch the day before and the morning of the tour to ensure a smooth pick up. Highly recommend if you’re stopping in to Johannesburg.

Thabang led us on an enlightening tour of Soweto, entertaining us with facts and stories, and speaking candidly about living in Soweto. The name 'Soweto' is well known, and we think we know what we are going to see. Thabang offers a glimpse of Soweto beyond what we think we know about the townships. Both Soweto and the Apartheid Museum can be confronting (and rightly so), Thabang provided context and history. He's a great communicator. If you want to understand more about modern Johannesburg, I highly recommend this tour.

This tour was INCREDIBLE!! We learned SO much on this tour and got to see a full range of what Soweto has to offer. Our tour guide Taibang was kind, genuine and incredibly knowledgeable. If he offers to take you to the lower class shanty town of Soweto DO NOT MISS THIS INCREDIBLE OPPORTUNITY!! The community there is kind and friendly and incredibly generous. And we felt 100% safe the entire time. I honestly felt safer in that community than I do in downtown Toronto at night. Wonderful experience, highly recommend this company for any tours they offer!

We had a great day out with Tabo visiting the Apartheid museum and then Soweto. We didn’t want to see the real tourist areas of Soweto rather the real place and Tabo took us around to show us this vibrant and safe community. Our boys (cheese boys) loved the trip and got a lot out of the tour. Thanks again and highly recommended your.

Thabang was an amazing guide for our day in Johannesburg. He gave us options, allowing us to choose the activities we were comfortable with. Because he inspired trust, we opted to do everything and go everywhere he offered. We hit all the top tourist destinations but also got to walk down a dirt lane in Soweto observing everyday life. Coming from Soweto, Thabang could give us accurate depictions of life there and provide detail of the culture of community there. We even got to drive through CBD Johannesburg safe in his knowledge of the streets while he explained the state and history of the various downtown areas. Highly recommend for the curious.
