What To Expect
Acropolis
We start the tour by visiting the so called “sacred rock”, The Acropolis. Here you will see: - Parthenon that was dedicated to goddess Athena (Parthenos) - Propylea, the monumental entrance to the sacred area - The Temple of Athena Nike which was dedicated to Athena-Nike - The Erechtheion with its famous female figures-statues - The Caryatides or Maidens dedicated to both goddess Athena and god Poseidon - The Odeum of Herodus Atticus - The the Theatre of Dionysus, the first theatre in the whole world - The Areopagus (Mars Hill)
Temple of Olympian Zeus
The temple of Olympian Zeus (124-132 AD) had three rows of eight columns (tripteral octastyle) on the two narrow sides and two rows of twenty columns (dipteral eikosastyle) on the long sides. It once housed the chryselephantine (gold and ivory) statue of Zeus and the statue of the emperor. Sixteen of the temple's columns survive today, thirteen of them, on the east side, intact. Of the remaining three on the west side, one collapsed in 1852.

5.00Had a WONDERFUL full day tour of Athens and surrounding areas with Toli Nikitas. He is a phenomenal guide. Very knowledgeable, very personable, very pleasant. Speaks perfect English. Knows the history and the background of all the sites. Immediately made us feel comfortable letting us know it was our tour. Was very patient and accommodating during the day. Took us to a fabulous water side restaurant for lunch. Truly made it a very memorable day in Athens for us. We would recommend him and hope he is still around if we return! Thank you Tolis. 5.00We were met by our driver Maki from Private Greece Tours (PGT) at the port where our boat docked. This day tour was for sure one of the highlights of our tour in Greece. Maki was very knowledgeable about the history of ancient Greece/Athens and a true ambassador not only for PGT but also for Athens/Greece. Private Greece Tours are highly recommended, there assistance to book the tour was amazing and they even assisted us to book entrance tickets for our visit to the Acropolis in Athens.

5.00We actually started our adventure with Private Greece Tours the day before this itinerary. We disembarked our cruise ship in Athens, our driver (Dominic) met us at 8 am too whisk us to a ferry to cross to the island of Eginia and a full day adventure. Dominic was very professional and was always open to any changes we had for the day. We visited many highlights on the island and Dominic found the best place for us to enjoy a great lunch 😀. Stephanie had a request to be able to swim in the ocean while on the island, Dominic found the perfect little beach to make this happen. After our day of exploration, we returned across the ferry and headed for our hotel stay and made our plans with Dominic for pickup the next morning. Day 2 with Private Greece Tours Our driver (Dominic) was bang on 8 am to pick us up and whisk us off to the start of the exploration of Athens. We already had our Acropolis entry tickets and Private Greece Tours arranged a private tour guide, Nikos (licensed) for our time at the Acropolis. This option is a must to get the most out of the time on the Acropolis site. After the Acropolis we spent a couple hours seeing more historic sites around Athens. We started our progress down the Riviera to Sounion, on the way Stephanie yelled out, can we please turn around as she saw a playground climbing structure she wanted to go on. Dominic drove a bit further till he found a safe place to turn around and made it happen. At this point we asked Dominic (driver) to help with a good lunch venue, he took us to an area with a number of resturaunts. We went in and were the only people there it was early for the locals, the food was incredible and Dominic was not kidding about the quality. We continued on to the temple of Poseidon and stopped at other random spots along highway that Dominic knew would be well liked and as usual he was correct. We completed our tour and returned to our hotel and had a happy 😊 hug and yes a traditional cheek kiss from Dominic, our safe and professional driver. 100% recommend using Private Greece Tours to make your short time in Greece memorable. 5.00Our tour with driver Mike, despite rainy weather in Athens all day, was excellent. Mike did a superb job customizing the tour to our specific needs, including a heroic and successful effort to get us close to the Acropolis in the face of road closures due to a bike race. And thanks to the light rain, the summits of the Acropolis and Mars Hill were not crowded at all! Poseidon’s Temple was a very interesting ride outside the busy Athens metropolis, and was super interesting! I would highly recommend this tour service.
