The old neighbourhoods around Acropolis Enjoy an immersive photo tour at the neighbourhoods around Acropolis. During your strollings to the quaint alleys of Plaka and further, all the vantage shooting points will be revealed to you through an elaborate route that doesn't miss the secret gems of each neighbourhood. Upon your meeting with the photographer you receive some preliminary instructions according to your skill levels Route: A photo tour around the Acropolis; Plaka, Thiseio and Dionysiou Areopagitou street. Our photo walk starts through the historical area of Plaka where you learn how to navigate your surroundings, work with light, colour, background, influences and the challenges of the place; Neoclassical mansions and red-tiled roofs, small winding alleys, picturesque stairs, balconies blooming with bougainvillaea, and an intriguing mosaic of people. The whitewashed houses in the more relaxed Anafyotika and its island setting is one of the not-to-be-missed photo spots in the area. Reaching the more modern Thiseio and the pedestrianised Dionysiou Areopagitou street admiring the houses and the Acropolis standing majestically above you, you would have trained your eye to capture images that make an impact! Some spectacular views to the grandeur of the Parthenon await to be photographed from the opossite to Acropolis, Philopappos hill. The spot is ideal for you to learn how to take stronger landscape shots using more efficiently your camera's settings. An alternative route is Down Town with the neighbourhoods of Psiri and Keramikos. Document the bustling and arty life in Psiri and the bohemian one of the nearby Keramikos. Under the guidance of the pro you will be taught more than just taking pictures, how to expand your ability to choose compelling subjects and portray them in more meaningful ways. A camera provides the perfect excuse to go beyond simply what can be seen, to discover the authentic culture of each place. Old fashioned artisans workshops, hidden alleys, counter culture and alternative spaces, street, bars and traditional tavernas, coexist in harmony, creating a fascinating atmosphere waiting you to tell their stories through your pictures. During your strolls to the vibarnt alleys you will learn how to improve your photographs of people and capture a person's true character. Both areas offer you a wide array of street photography opportunities, a fascinating atmopshere and consist some of the most interesting faces of the non-classical Athens!

My photo tour of Athens with Socrates was a highlight of my trip to Greece! As a photographer I love capturing images of the places and people I encounter while abroad. Like Socrates, I have a particular interest in documentary photography and loved having the opportunity to hear his thoughts and advice regarding how I could capture such candid images. He took me to colorful and interesting parts of the city that reflected my interests which I had shared with him. It was a very unique, personalized, and encouraging experience. I felt so lucky to get to take photographs alongside such an experienced and talented photographer. He was very respectful and worked hard to meet my requests. I am very happy with the results and brought home many images from my tour I am excited to share with others! Thank you Socrates!

It was an important workshop, and one thing is certain—I gained more inspiration than I expected regarding urban photography. Since I already had some experience with photography, we didn’t waste time on technical details and went straight to the part about perceiving the urban landscape and the subjects I wanted to photograph. A big thank you to Sokrates!

Socrates Baltagiannis, freelance photojournalist, was our guide/instructor for this photo walk. He led us through the historic neighborhoods below the Acropolis. Before our arrival,Socrates asked about my specific interests, experience levels and any specific areas of instruction in which I was interested. He was extremely helpful, patient and knowledgeable. I asked for help with composition and exposure, especially in architectural and landscape photography. He offered great suggestions and advice that helped me improve my skills. In addition to the photography aspects of our tour, we had interesting conversations about a wide range of topics. His English skills are excellent and I know he also speaks other languages. I highly recommend this experience!

Wonderful Streetphotography Workshop with Socrates Baltagiannis, exploring Athens a bit aside from the usual tourist areas. Socrates is a great photographer, a very nice person and a great teacher. I had a lot of fun and got some great photos from this morning!

Had an amazing day with Socrates. Not only did he adjust my photography technique to get the best street photography shots, but, even more, shared some of his favorite 'people places' to experience Athens from a local's perspective. His professional pointers on colors, angles, people and framing are priceless. Was able to continue shooting the rest of the day. And having him explain more history and culture was bonus. Would totally recommend!

A "local" photographer guide is essential in every photography tour- they know some more other tidbits not found in books. The reason why we went with this tour. Socrates , our guide got us into the "other" nooks and crannies of Athens- areas we would have not gone into otherwise. Socrates is very accommodating, knowledgeable, and protective- shooing potential local "accosters". We truly appreciated your time Socrates! Although we did not get to all the "other" interesting photo-worthy sites during the tour we got more practical information on how to get there on our own. Thank you- Tom (& Adora tagging along)
