This snowshoeing adventure by night is a great tour for those of you who want to experience the Northern lights with an extra nature activity. The snowshoeing + auroras combo is also a nice alternative to our famous Northern Lights Photography Hunting Experience from Rovaniemi , especially when the weather conditions are less promising: in case of snowfalls, you still get a memorable adventure into arctic wilderness!
The tour is organised in small groups to allow a better connection with nature.

What To Expect
This tour will offer a memorable night adventure on snowshoes in small groups. You will reach some elusive wild areas with no light pollution, explore Lapland wilderness by night, walk on deep snow and may even spot or hear some animals such as reindeer or arctic hares... Snowshoeing allows going off the beaten path and get to places that you cannot reach with cars. Because the tour happens during the night, you will also get a chance to observe the Northern lights! We will always try to adapt the tour to increase the chance of finding auroras. You may then walk through the forests to reach a little hidden lake, or walk up to a hilltop to have a nice view over the horizon. Your guide will teach you more about the Northern lights, the scientific explanation behind the phenomenon but also the tales and legends associated to it.

5.00TOP!! We did 2 activities with Nordic Odissey: -First of all, snowshoeing to see the Northern Lights. We had a great time, in a small group, after not even an hour drive we were able to start the hike. The guide was great, we were allowed a few explanations, among others, about the stars, the Northern Lights, life in Finland, animal footprints... everything was very interesting without being boring. Our tour was nice and we had the chance to see the aurora but even without it, we loved our outing, we took plenty of eyes. With a little hot glögi without alcohol to top it off! -In the second activity, we hiked in the Kourouoma Canyon to see the icefalls, again we were in small committee. With a great guide who put us at ease and especially safe, thanks to a quality equipment because some passages of the hike are sensitive (I specify it because when we saw the spikes of other companies present, it was scary!!). Once again we were allowed several anecdotes about what was happening before in this forest, about the trees....We ended up with a little picnic with nice little Finnish culinary discoveries... We were lucky to have chosen Nordi Odissey because when we heard reviews about other agencies, ripping off tourists, it was scary!! The little plus are the perfectly polyglot guides (in our case, French / English) Our only regret and not having done other activities you!

5.002nd activity with Nordic Odyssey for a 100% satisfaction. Orga, accompaniment, professionalism of the managers at the top. Evening on the tracks of animals, explanations of the dawns and the sky that surround us and small fire in the middle of this walk on the frozen marshes to make the most of the dawns. 5.00Everything was perfect from start to finish. A nice welcome by our guide at the agency, a great feeling with the guide and the group. We had the chance to see beautiful aurora and have great photos! And the snowshoe hike, followed by the stop in a teepee were really beautiful! Nothing wrong. We learned a lot of stuff it was really interesting.

5.00We booked the aurora hunting + snowshoeing activity with Nordic Odyssey, and had a wonderful experience. They outfitted us with overalls and boots, and when they heard that we didn't have proper gloves, they tried their best to find suitable ones even though they weren't required to provide them. Aurora, our aptly named guide, was patient even as we fumbled with the snowshoes. She also pointed out the different foliage in the forest at night, as well as tracks made in the snow by various animals -- all very interesting to city folks like us! She was knowledgeable about all things related to the northern lights, sharing with us how northern lights are formed and in what conditions we can see them. When she saw that we were freezing while waiting around to see the lights from the swamp, she brought us for another quick walk, timing our return to the swamp perfectly with the northern lights appearing in the sky. Our activity ended an hour behind time because Aurora really wanted us to see the northern lights -- we could really see her passion for the northern lights. After the activity, Nordic Odyssey even shared photos of the northern lights from that night. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! On top of the impeccable service, the warmth that the Nordic Odyssey folks showed us really made us feel welcome, and made the night memorable. If we are ever visiting Rovaniemi again, we will definitely engage Nordic Odyssey for other activities.

5.00After a punctual pick-up, we received our equipment on site to start the snowshoe hike. On the way, our guide explained the details of the tour and said that the evening wasn't bad for seeing the lights. As we covered the first few metres of the hike, it turned out that our guide was quite wrong, as the evening was perfect for seeing the lights. We were therefore rewarded with a beautiful spectacle of the Northern Lights, which made the whole tour a wonderful experience. To our surprise, our guide also had a camera and tripod with her, which she used frequently during the tour. The pictures were provided to us at no extra charge and are definitely better than the pictures we took ourselves.
