Avignon and the Palais des Papes & the winemakers of Châteauneuf du Pape, discover what connects them from the 14th century to modern times.

Avignon for 70 odd years of the early 1300s was centre of the Catholic world. The skyline a magnificent urban landscape, that includes the Pont Saint Bénezet, Ramparts, Petit Palais, Cathedral & walls of the Popes’ Palace flanked by four mighty towers. Start with a visit to the Palais before a short drive to the wine country. Châteauneuf du Pape is at the heart of a region full of history, culture and joie de vivre. A unique, magical place that appears on the hill like an island rising out of a sea of vines. At the summit the vestiges of the ruined château by the popes in the 14th century as a summer residence to escape the city heat of Avignon. In the afternoon visit two different vineyards - first Château Fortia & Château la Gardine Introducing you to the iconic wines where tradition is enhanced by modernism & excellence, with wine tasting.

Christopher with OohProvence was fabulous! He was very knowledgeable on the history of Avignon and shared lots of stories which made the trip even more meaningful. Our tours and tastings with Christopher in Chateauneuf du Pape area was a great experience. He took us to exceptional vineyards and the tastings were unforgettable! We began as guide and clients and finished as friends. Definitely book with OohProvence!! Simply the BEST!

My husband and I spent the most delightful, memorable, and informative day with Christopher, exploring Avignon followed by wine tasting in Chateauneuf de Pape. He is a terrific guide who totally customized the day to meet our interests and needs. We look forward to returning to Provence and having Christopher as our tour guide to another part of the region.

I can't give this a high enough rating. My husband and I were staying in Arles and wanted to see Avignon and the area around, but we didn't have a car. Christopher and I emailed ahead of time and he put together an itinerary that was perfect. We saw more in a day than we would have seen in on our own in a week. All in a way that felt unrushed and informative. He was a pleasure to spend the day with! We would do it again in a flash!!!

I can’t say enough good things about OohProvence! My husband and I booked a day tour of Avignon and the vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape and it was our favorite day of the whole trip! A friend recommended the company and they were so right! Our tour guide, Laurent, tailored the whole day to us. We started with a tour of the Palace of the Pope and a walking tour of Avignon and I loved that we were able to move at our own pace throughout. Laurent was so knowledgeable and patiently answered all of our questions throughout the day. After the city tour we drove out to the vineyard, where we were treated like old friends! The private tour and tasting there was my favorite part. We had the whole place to ourselves and I loved learning all about how the wine was made and also the history of the region and the vineyard. Beyond the tour, Laurent gave us advice and recommendations for some of our other destinations. All day Laurent treated us like friends rather than tourists and it made the experience feel so much more authentic. It was a bit of a splurge compared to some other tours but the quality of the experience made it worth every penny in our opinion. If we make it back to Provence we will 100% book another tour with them!

Avignon's history, local culture & the wines of Châteauneuf du Pape private tour is very informative excurtion, The guide Laurent is very competent and will give you a lot of info about history of this region, it is very useful excurtion for people who are interested in history and architecture. I would maybe make the Avignion visit a bit shorter and to make Châteauneuf du Pape winery visit longer, with more detailed observing and slower and more comprehensive degustation. Thank you OohProvance and Laurent specially for this great day! Very prfessional and responsible company.

We had an absolutely lovely time with Laurent visiting Avignon. Learning the history of Avignon, touring the castle and finally wine tasting at Chateauneuf du Pape was amazing! We even bought some wine to ship home! It was a wonderful way to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We highly recommend this tour and if you are lucky enough to have Laurent be your guide, it will be even better!
