Savannah LeCornu is a self taught artist from Ketchikan Alaska. She is Tsimshian, Haida, and Nimiipuu (Nez Perce). She works in formline and plateau art styles and strives to create modern, accessible art that celebrates indigenous peoples.

As an Indigenous artist, Savannah tells stories. Storytelling has always been important to us as a people and it is something she has always gravitated to. Through painting, drawing, and beading she creates stories that preserve traditions, contemporary stories that show that Indigenous peoples are still here and thriving, and stories of indigenous joy and love.

She comes from multiple tribes and works in the art forms of both her northern coastal and plateau roots, often combining them. Through vibrant colors, humorous titles, modern elements and traditional shapes she strives to create art that reflects her unique view and invites the audience to rethink the preconceived notions they may have about Indigenous peoples and arts.

Savannah was oh so welcoming and kind. I was looking to improve my ability to design and I came away from the class more confident in that process. I had no idea i was making my life so much harder by begining my designs in the totally wrong direction. I was able to make personalized gifts for friends and family that coming winter. Highly recommend.

It was also a good opportunity to connect with fellow travellers over shared interests and hobbies. The cafe is super cozy and serves delicious coffee to enjoy while getting crafty.

Savannah was incredibly knowledgeable, and I loved the opportunity to learn beadwork from another Indigenous artist. As a visual and hands-on learner, I appreciated how she took the time to demonstrate the stitching techniques and then guided me through practicing them immediately. She led a large class with patience and care, meeting each of us where we were and offering personalized help as needed. She tailored her approach to accommodate different learning styles, ensuring everyone felt supported. By the end of the class, we all successfully learned the two-needle beading method, a technique I had always wanted to learn. I highly recommend any classes Savannah offers, as she is a multidisciplinary artist with so much to share. Her class seamlessly intertwined art, stories, humor, and culture. During the class, we all learned how to bead one of Savannah’s original pumpkin designs, and I think it’s safe to say we all had a smashing time!
