Subway line 1 to get there. Huge lines to clear security just after subway ticket validation gate and also entering museum. Allocate at least 1 hour before entry time limit or you may not get in. eg 11am ticket means deadline to enter museum is 11am but you may enter fr 9 to 11am. Wearing a mask (with a few drops of peppermint oil?) may be more comfortable for toilet visits and viewing exhibits with endless crowds. I did not use English audio guide available at entry as helper says info is for 30 major pieces only. There will be a long queue inside 1 of the exhibit halls on top level to view the coronet of 1 of the empress. Overall one must remember these are leftovers of great historical pieces not looted, or stolen by centuries of foreign invasion, poverty, dishonesty etc. Or not destroyed during the cultural revolution. Exhibits were mainly stones, copper, bronze left behind by Chiang Kai Shek fleeing to Taiwan who btw took the most valuable and "worthwhile" treasures.

Entry to the museum went smoothly and the museum itself was really interesting. We bought the audio tour which was packed full of info about Ancient China. Entry from the museum to Tiananmen Square was really easy.

Great museum in this monumental buiilding. Thanks to Viator it could visit it, otherwise it seems impossible to get a ticket. For me, it was one if the highlights of all the very interesting things you can do in Beijing

Ticket reservations are procedurally difficult for foreigners, and even for Chinese people, it seems difficult to book at popular spots. It was a bit later than the time you wanted, but I am glad you managed to secure a ticket and used this service.

Family of five visited. Tony picked up that I duplicated the passport numbers and informed us. Very lucky he did as there would be a problem for one of the kids entering. Five stars for attention to detail.
