Bel Ombre Nature Reserve
Sentier Goyaves is best suited for adventurous and seasoned drivers due to its steeper slopes. As you go deeper into the nature reserve, you will make contact with vast vegetation and endemic bird species such as; the Pink Pigeon, the Mauritius Black Bulbul, or the Mauritius Kestrel. The most memorable part of this route is the spectacular view over the Domaine de Bel Ombre, some 2500 hectares in the southwest of Mauritius, stretching from the mountains to the turquoise lagoon. As an additional bonus, you can take a dip into the Hirondelles Waterfall. Further on, drive past a fish pond towards the fascinating ruins of Heritage’s old sugar mill situated at the brink of Dalsing plains. It is home to various wild animals in Mauritius. Explorers will be mesmerized by panoramic view over the nature reserve and the coastline. Finally, only a few steps away, our bikers can take a refreshing dip in the natural rock pool of L’Exemple Waterfall, before heading back.

A 2 hour drive through the most beautiful countryside of Mauritius to arrive at the park only to be told our trip was cancelled due to the vehicle breaking down, just about to get back in our taxi not very impressed and they called us back they did have a 4x4 truck with air con we could have, Fred our guide was excellent, even got us to eat some strange berries and fruit growing wild , it was so sweet and tasty. Fred’s knowledge of the reserve was fantastic. We did not see a great amount of wildlife, just glimpse now and again, but then again no safari can guarantee you see the wildlife, the park itself made up for that, fantastic views, learnt a lot about the trees, especially the ebony tree, and the waterfalls we amazing, I have a heart condition and mobility issues, Fred took my bag and helped me through the rough terrain not helped by a heavy rain storm the previous day, many rest stops we finally made it to the waterfalls, it was worth all the pain I was in, what an incredible experience . Would recommend it to anyone especially if Fredrick is on.

We had a lovely time and Jimmy had a lot of patience with us at the waterfall 🙏🏼🌴🌊 The tour and scenery were beautiful and my two boys loved seeing a different side to Mauritius.

Frederic our guide was fantastic. He spotted some animals and birds and carefully explained all the trees and plants. We had a long time at the waterfall and nothing felt rushed. Really recommend
