What To Expect
Bentota River
Just a few kilometres away from the city of Bentota lies the fabled Benthara River (also known as Bentota River). The river is more notably known for its flora and fauna, as it’s a mix of mangroves and smaller fishing communities that thrives by its banks. Folklore claims that the river was once the settlement of an ancient tribe that roamed the island.
Victor Hasselblad Sea Turtle Research & Conservation Center
This is the oldest Conservation and Research project started in Sri Lanka in early 1978. It was at a time when all 7 species of sea turtles were on the Endangered list. Of the 7 species, 5 of the species were found to be frequenting the beaches of the southern coast of Sri Lanka where they beached, to lay their eggs. These eggs were collected by the villagers and sold in the open market. It was about this time when the famous Swedish camera maker Victor Hasselblad whose cameras were the first to be used on the moon, came into the picture. He happened to be a close friend of the highly renowned Sri Lankan bird photographer, Dr Upane de Zylva , and Victor, having similar interests in photography, had made a donation through Dr Zylva to be used in any form of conservation and research, in Sri Lanka.

5.00This Bentota & Galle tour was one of the best experiences of our trip. The day included scenic spots in Bentota and a wonderful walk around Galle Fort, with plenty of time for photos and exploring. Shehan is an excellent guide professional, punctual, and very easy to communicate with. He adapted the tour to our preferences and made sure we were comfortable throughout the journey. 5.00A trip worth recommending! We saw beautiful mangrove forests and fed monkeys. The port of Galle and the nearby little shops really impressed us. Shehan is a wonderful guide, an excellent driver, and a truly lovely person.

5.00I had an incredible day exploring Galle and Bentota with Shehan C Tours. Everything was perfectly organized from start to finish. Shehan was friendly, knowledgeable, and made sure I was comfortable throughout the trip. We visited the Galle Fort, the beautiful beaches, a turtle hatchery, and enjoyed a relaxing river safari in Bentota each stop was absolutely worth it! I really appreciated how flexible and personalized the tour felt, with time to take photos, enjoy the views, and experience the local culture.
