The ancient city of Berat known with the nickname “City of a Thousand Windows”, the survivor of history, the bearer of a rich cultural Illyrian, Greek, Romanian, Byzantine, Slavic, Turkish heritage mix, the owner of an architectural treasure is one of the greatest touristic attractions in South Albania.
Located on the Osum River, surrounded by mountains and hills including Tomorri mountain that was declared national park speaks amazing about the picturesque views that Berat city has to offer.
Ceramic finds from the 7th century BCE attest to a settlement of the rocky hill of Berat by the Illyrians. Berat has been identified with the ancient Antipatrea. The name Berat has been derived through Albanian sound changes from the old Slavonic language Belgrad meaning “White cite". In 1961 Berat was proclaimed “Museum City” and in 2008 designated a UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE site.

Of course, if you take a trip to Albania, you can not miss Berat. And I must say it was exciting to see how people try to preserve and present the remains here. You have to consider that it is a developing country after a long dictatorship and that the money is not very much. They do a lot with little. We ate at the castle and had fun
