Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture
Most tours in the area are designed for mass tourism, often catering mainly to Chinese crowds. While convenient, these experiences are usually overcrowded, staged, and less authentic — for example, the Dai Nationality Park feels more like a theme park, with an entrance fee and tourists shuttled around in golf carts. Our tour is different: in just two hours, you will explore more than ten genuine Dai villages, some with beautifully decorated villas reflecting wealth, others with modest wooden stilt houses that reveal the simplicity of rural life. This contrast allows you to truly appreciate the diversity of Dai culture, architecture, and way of living. Along the way, you will meet locals, enjoy the scenery, and gain insights into traditions that remain vibrant today. Our guide will shoot the best moments of the tour with a drone, to create lasting souvenirs from this incredible experience with your friends and family.
Jinghong
While the Gaozhuang night market is certainly worth experiencing, Jinghong itself offers only a handful of daytime attractions, such as Manting Park and a few temples or pagodas. Xishuangbanna, however, is renowned for its exceptionally rich and diverse flora and fauna, meaning that most of the region’s true highlights lie outside the city. Depending on the season and the sites you choose, some of these places can feel crowded or somewhat staged by Western standards. Our tours provide a refreshing alternative — taking you away from the masses and into genuine, unspoiled settings. Whether you prefer exploring beautifully preserved Dai villages by e-bike, wandering through tea and coffee plantations, or enjoying a hands-on tea-picking and tasting experience right at the source — complete with explanations in your own language — our focus is always on authenticity and intimacy.

This tour is an absolute hit — a concentrate of authenticity, nature, and culture in a quiet and peaceful environment, far from the bustling crowds. If you are in Jinghong for only 24 hours, this is the tour you need to book. I had visited the Dai Nationality Garden (where all the tour groups bring their herd of tourists) two days before, and it was a complete joke — think “Disneyland.” Everything was staged, with locals trying to sell you things at every shop and streams of Chinese Han tourists buzzing around in golf carts. The complete opposite of what one imagines when visiting a “traditional Dai village.” The Dai Villages Tour offered by Maxime is the only real option for those who want to see genuine villages, meet real people, and enjoy these temples literally without anyone else around.
