Bhaktapur used to be the decision position of authority of the Kathmandu Valley until the ruler, Yakshya Malla, in 1482, isolated the kingdom between his three children, in the long run blurring the quality of solidarity and losing the country to the Shah line from Gorkha.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square
Bhaktapur Durbar Square is the plaza in front of the royal palace of the old Bhaktapur Kingdom, 1,400 metres (4,600 ft) above sea level. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Dattatreya Temple
The temple of Dattatreya is as old as the Palace of Fifty-five Windows. The three-story pagoda-style Dattatreya Temple, with statues of the Hindu trinity, (Brahma the creator, Vishnu the preserver, and Shiva the destroyer), was built during the reign of King Yaksha Malla (1428 A.D. – 1482 A.D.) and was opened to the public around 1486 A.D., only after his demise.

5.00Booked this tour with a friend. We booked through Himalayan Planet Adventures. I’ve only read about this town, and was very excited to see it in person. We booked the half day tour. Our guide was Rabina, she was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about the city. We had many questions about various statues and art and the culture. Rabina was more than happy to explain everything to us. She even took us to the art school there. The day was perfect. This half day tour is well worth the time.
