In order to best appreciate the bioluminescent phenomena our tours run at sunset and early evening and it can get quite dark in the mangrove canal. So, if you are afraid of darkness, a first time kayaker, or have small kids we strongly suggest taking the earlier, sunset trip. This way you can see where you are going, get use to the environment and sharpen your kayaking skills
Due to the immense popularity the Bio Bay tour, at times can get crowded. It’s not uncommon to meet up with other tour groups waiting to access the canal leading to the lagoon. There can be bumping other kayaks along the way.
Please keep in mind that this tour takes place in a natural environment and that the bioluminescent phenomenon, although rare, can be seen year round. The intensity of brightness is unpredictable and can vary from minimal to very bright suddenly.
SPECIAL NOTE: We encourage our guests to not reserve the tour on the same day of arrival to the Island, including coming from Vieques or Culebra. If the FLIGHT or FERRY is delayed and the guest misses the tour the guest will not be entitled to a refund or rescheduling.
TOUR TIME might change depending on sunset time. If so we will send a reminder for updated meeting time.
This tour takes place in the water. Expect to get completely wet. Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet. We recommend to bring a change of clothes and towel for after the trip.
Tour is not canceled in rainy days. We will get wet anyways ;)
There are public bathrooms on-site, but they are not always in good condition. You may consider stopping in fast food before getting to the meeting site or using the bathrooms from the nearby stores/restaurants which are sometimes available.
Certain time of the year great amounts of sargassum (seaweed) arrive to our coasts. This can make paddling to feel like a workout. Also the natural decomposition odor might be unpleasant.
Even if Viator system allows the guest to write weight over the limit, it will still be 240 lbs the weight limit.

We had a great time with our guides. Even though it was not the darkest night, they had equipment to help see the bioluminescence. The guides were knowledgeable and funny too. Plus the kayaking itself was really fun and not too tough.

The hosts were great and made sure we had a good time regardless. The paddle back is much harder (against the current in the dark) than the paddle out, so be aware. They told us to arrive 40 minutes early, which was unnecessary and anxiety inducing for the person in our group that was unsure/afraid. 15 minutes early was more than enough time.

Kayaks were fun. The tide smell was intense. The glowing was very cool but limited by the half moon. Seemed like less glowing than in some videos I've seen.

It was an amazing experience! Pure adventure staff are the best, Eli, Amari, Catalina and all the other guys who were with us in the bay!

Great time, our tour guides were: Amaury, Eli, Yadiel, Gio, and Catalina. They were helpful and just made the whole excursion feel very casual and enjoyable. Always felt like they knew what they were doing and like they were invested in us having a good time. Can’t think of a single complaint

I’ve visited this bay twice before, and unfortunately, this was the only time we had a negative experience. Some of the staff were unfriendly, which set the tone for the evening. The departure area had a strong, unpleasant odor, as if something was rotting. It was also extremely dark, and no lighting was provided to help us navigate through the mangroves and the bay. On my two previous tours, lighting was available, which made a big difference in both safety and overall experience. Additionally, the bay no longer seems to have the same level of bioluminescence. The first time I visited, over 15 years ago, the water would glow bright blue as the kayaks moved through it. Now, the effect is minimal and barely visible, which was quite disappointing.
