Where the waters of the seashore are illuminated by hundreds of living microorganisms (plankton) that light up when they hit the waves. The light is usually so bright that even fish can be seen in the water.

Playa Punta Cocos
Bioluminescence in Holbox is a phenomenon that occurs on the southern beaches of the island and can be observed at night when it is completely dark. On this land tour, our specialized guides will transport you in one of our all-terrain vehicles to the end of the island, to the Punta Cocos lagoon, the most virgin and beautiful beach in Holbox. Here our local guide will teach us about plankton as well as the constellations.

4.00Despite not being the best time and we had bad weather several days, today Friday, January 30 at 5 am with a lot of freezing wind, if we could go in a 4x4 to Punta Cocos and saw a moon setting and a spectacular breathtaking sky !!! Although it was little bioluminescence it looked beautiful!!! Great experience, it was worth the early morning, cold and pay for this tour! Diego was friendly and explained very well!! Thank you!! 5.00We went on the bioluminescence-tour with Diego on the 10th of january. Eventhough it is not the season, we were very lucky to see a lot of beautiful bioluminescence as well as thousands of stars above us. Diego was very friendly, knowledgeable and took his time to give us a great experience!

5.00The best experience we had in Holbox! The tour time was set to ensure the best experience so that we could see the Bioluminiscence phenomenon. Our guide David, was amazing from the beginning! He picked us up at the hotel and explained everything about the plancton. He led us to the best locations and his enthusiasm in showing us and teaching us about this organism was undoubtedly contagious!
