Every visit to Salento should include a walk along the Vereda Palestina to experience the typical landscape of the coffee region. Not only is it the perfect environment to grow arabica coffee it is also the home to a huge variety of birds. Our expert guides can introduce you to species of hummingbirds, toucanets, tanagers and wood warblers among other species and local farmers will show you the magical process of making coffee from bean to cup.

What To Expect

We will walk from the town of Salento to the Vereda Palestina, looking for the colourful and beautiful birds that live close to the coffee farms. This is a great experience to introduce you to the Birds of Colombia. Birds and Coffee, a perfect combination.

We had an awesome time on this tour. It was a total of 6 hours; 4 bird-watching and 2 at the coffee bean farm. Highly recommend!

It was a breathtaking experience! Nestor and Jorge are very approachable and warm. They have in-depth knowledge of the characteristics and behaviors of the regional bird species and enjoy sharing this with their guests. At the end of the tour we visited a coffee plantation. Here we learned everything about the traditional production of coffee in a very small, private group. All in all a wonderful day - definitely recommended!

I had a great experience with my guide Ivan. He did not above and beyond to make everyone feel comfortable and excited. He waited at my hostal before sunrise to make me feel safe. He brought water and snacks so we all had something before breakfast. The breakfast place on the side of the street is local and authentic. The coffee farm of his choice has a 5-star review. Ivan also customized the tour to give me more time for birding while others visited a coffee farm. I would bird with Ivan again the next time I visit Salento ❤️

Great experience! We saw many beautiful birds on this trip and Néstor is very experienced and knows everything about birds in the Andes. He deeply loves this forest and dedicates a lot of his time and emotion to nature, which I admire very much. Full score recommendation!

I took this tour because I was interested in seeing the birds of the region. IVAN AND NESTOR are excellent guides because they explained everything related to birds and their ecosystem. After the birding, we took a tour to learn about the wonderful coffee process, FULLY RECOMMENDED!!

Local guides show great experience in the knowledge of the birds of the region and are very charismatic with the public. I felt very happy to be able to learn with them from birds from very basic aspects to the most complex. In addition, the tour and the coffee tasting are very pleasant spaces in which we are made to feel like we are part of the place. As a recommendation for future travelers I could tell them to be willing to adventure and with their eyes very open to all the surprises that this tour offers.
