Ciao! I’m a local chef, pasta maker, and licensed Guida Enogastronomica, featured in Forbes Magazine as one of Bologna’s top culinary experts. I hold a Certificato di Specializzazione IFTS in Gastronomia in IGP and DOP products and study Gastronomy at the Università di Bologna. I’ve cooked in some of Emilia-Romagna’s finest kitchens, including a Michelin-starred restaurant.
We’ll begin beneath the arches of Palazzo della Mercanzia with a macchiato and historic torta at a family-run pasticceria, then explore the Quadrilatero as I reveal the secrets of Parmigiano Reggiano DOP, Prosciutto di Parma DOP, Mortadella IGP, and Aceto Balsamico DOP.
Taste the region’s best salumi, cheeses, breads, and Pignoletto wine — plus a 25-year Aceto Balsamico Tradizionale DOP — inside Italy’s oldest tavern (1465). We’ll proceed with tagliatelle al ragù paired with a glass of Sangiovese di Romagna at a beloved trattoria, and say arrivederci! over one of the city’s best artisanal gelato.

We experienced Darren’s Bologna Food Tour in February 2026, and it was one of our favourite experiences in the city. Highly recommended! Darren’s passion is infectious. With his cheffing experience and deep knowledge, he elevates this from a standard food tour into a 5-star taste sensation. We explored bustling markets, learning the difference between IGP & DOP foods; with Darren focussing on only the best authentic flavours and experiences, he had us sampling flavours to die for, Generous with his knowledge, time, and enthusiasm, he shared engaging stories and historical insights as we wandered between stops. This is worth every penny, it will leave you both full of memories and a full tummy. Book it, you’ll love it.

Bologna has the best food in Italy and last week we had a wonderful food tour with the best food tour guide in Bologna, Darren. He took us to some great spots, including the oldest wine bar, for some fantastic food including Café with Torta Riso; a Taglieri with mortadella, Copa, prosciutto di Parma and parmigiano with 25 year old balsamic; tagliatelle bolognese; and the best gelato in town. He combined the food with amazing historical stories and insights of downtown Bologna plus a tour of the ancient market in the Quadriletero section of the historic medieval center. We have been on many food tours around the world and this one was right at the top !!!! Grazie Darren

Darren was fabulous and we loved his in depth knowledge of the foods of Emilia Romagna. The places he took us to were special and not touristy and he gave us advice about restaurants and food tours for our next few stops on our trip. Thank you Darren!

We had a great day with Darren. He took us to hidden gem specialty shops where the proprietors embraced him on entry. We snacked on pastries, cheeses, pasta, prosciutto and wine. You can't go wrong with this tour. Lindsey and Jon

Wow wow wow!!! Absolutely outstanding food tour with Darren! Darren is such a passionate chef and it was wonderful to get to experience Bologna's culinary scene with him! All of the stops were incredible and we got to taste some of the best products of the area. Darren clearly loves sharing his love of food with others and I'd highly recommend booking a tour or class with him!!

Food Tour was outstanding. Darren is engaging, knowledgeable and a delightful guide. He was incredibly skilled at combining local Bologna history with each step of the food tour. The pastries at the first stop were plentiful and moorish. The variety of meats and cheeses at Italy’s oldest tavern was a true highlight of the day. The ragu tagliatelle at the next stop was a show stopper. Last stop was a delicious gelato with witty banter from the staff. Skip the walking tour and book a tour with Darren instead. All the history of a walking tour, but you get mortadella, pastries and wine instead. Excellent value for money and a spectacular way to spend a day. Highly recommend.

We had a great time touring Bologna with Darren this winter! We were especially impressed with his flexibility during the holiday season when many restaurants and shops were closed, and with his ability to adapt to our needs as a primarily vegetarian group. He was extremely generous with his additional restaurant recommendations—many of which were standout highlights of our trip. He even made some reservations on our behalf after our food tour. He had fantastic restaurant recommendations and he helped us coordinate a last minute Balsamic tasting at an acetaia. We highly recommend spending some time with Darren when you travel to Bologna, he was so helpful and pointed us in all of the right culinary directions for the rest of our trip.

Darren’s food tour of Bologna was the highlight of our trip. Not only is he an expert chef, he is deeply knowledgeable about Bologna itself, seamlessly weaving the city’s history and culture into the experience. Over more than three hours, he guided us through tastings of wines, cheeses, pastas, and gelato—thoughtfully tailored for our vegetarian group—while orienting us to the city and its traditions. Perhaps most importantly, Darren set us up for success well beyond the tour. He offered excellent recommendations throughout Bologna and the surrounding region and even helped us secure reservations for additional local experiences. Every restaurant he recommended was outstanding. We left the tour better informed, well fed, and confident in how to make the most of our time in Bologna and Emilia-Romagna.

Darren gave us an amazing tour of food and food history in Bologna. Our family joined him eating our way among a variety of small cafes and restaurants. We enjoyed a great culinary experience together.
