We had a lot of fun (and a very long day) with our guide Bima. He was early to pick us up even despite the 4am pickup time, and had a great attitude from the getgo. He provided a lot of useful insight and context to all of our visits as he drove us around, and smoothed out every part of the process so we could focus on staying awake. Unfortunately the weather was uncooperative so we didn't see the sunrise, which was okay for us. Our guide did mention that the pickup time is around 7am if you skip the sunrise portion (and you'll still be first up Borobudur), so keep that in mind when you're making your plans. We had some extra time before our Borobudur slot, so we got to visit the beautiful Mendut temple and explore the grounds for a while. Once at Borobudur we got the first slot up the temple, while Bima took care of all the logistics - the entry time, the tram, the guide number, and the slippers. As a heads up, you are not allowed to wear your normal shoes into the temple as they can damage the surface, so you're provided sandals (that you keep, so they're unused before you). There are no exceptions, so if you have special footwear requirements keep that in mind. I strongly recommend getting the earliest slot you can, as it gets scorching hot on the temple which is entirely outdoors. Borobudur itself was incredible, a truly stunning piece of architecture, culture, and history. This was the highlight of our entire Yogya trip, so definitely make sure you visit. You cannot climb the temple on Mondays (closed) or before 9am (reserved for pilgrims). After Borobudur we got lunch at Puunee Wild River, a beautiful restaurant by the river that our guide recommended for us and secured a coveted riverside table for us. The food was excellent and the view immaculate. From lunch we went up Mount Merapi for a Jeep excursion. The Jeep ride is bumpy but not especially rough; we took Dramamine in advance but it was probably unnecessary. The Jeep excursion itself is alright - you get to visit three sites that were affected by the 2006 and 2010 eruptions of Mount Merapi, Indonesia's most active volcano. It's a very sobering experience - uncomfortable but in a "this is good for me to learn about" way - but the layer of tourist trap on top of it slightly detracts from the experience. Overall still a good time and would recommend including it if you have time. We finished up at the Prambunan Temple complex, which was also awesome. Unlike Borobudur it isn't a single massive structure, but several really large structures surrounded by hundreds of smaller structures. Bima was awesome and walked us around to show us everything and explain things. There are also private guides available through the facility for 150k IDR per hour for a 5p group, 200k for larger groups. Bima was a great guide, telling us about the history, and also showing us lots of hidden gems and spots to avoid the crowds and get great pictures. Don't only visit Candi Siva - there are also 3 smaller Buddhist temples on the grounds that are a short walk away. They have a very different style and feel than Borobudur, and are worth visiting as well. Overall it was a great tour with a great guide - we highly recommend as long as you have the stamina to make it through a long day.

Pickup at 4am for Setumbu Sunrise. Take a rest and taste the famous cifet coffee. Guided tour for Borobudur Temple. Jeep Tour at Merapi Volcano and visit ruins destroyed by former eruptions. Prambanan Temple is the last stop. AIl inclusive in one day. The guide and driver Arma arrange all well planned activities,I have enough time to take photos and also explore my own. He have a good knowledge of history and explain with details. He also drive very safely from my hotel to other sightseeing locations. Recommended for solo traveller.

What an incredible day. The tour had a very early start but it was all worth it. Couldn't have done any of this myself.
