Bom Retiro literally means "good place to rest" and this might be a great place for it until 200 years ago! The success of coffee production and the construction of the São Paulo Railway Company in 1847 strongly changed this area.
Also, southern European migration which firstly interested this area, would be replaced by eastern European migration, mostly due to the 2 World Wars.
Later on, other kind of migration would contribute to deeply changing this area. Bolivians, Koreans, and Brazilians from the North East are now the predominant inhabitants of this area.
Together we will have a Breakfast in Bom Retiro, experiencing Korean pastry, tasting delicacies from the Balkans and drinking Colombian Coffee.

I don't normally eat breakfast but am always down to learn about food so I signed up for this tour. I really enjoyed it because it took me to a part of the city I never would have gone to on my own and I learned a lot about the history of the neighborhood. Giuliano was a great guide and I would definitely go on another tour with him. He also gave me suggestions for other things to do on my trip. Great tour!

The tour guide was very informative and kind, giving lots of suggestions for things to do in the area. He was very passionate about the history of the city. It was the perfect tour for only having a short time in São Paulo.

I contacted Giuliano last minute and he flexibly added me to his afternoon walking tour. Throughout the tour, he easily switched between English, Spanish, and Portuguese as needed. He was very knowledgeable about both the stops on our tour and about Sao Paulo history and current events, giving great insight and an enjoyable tour. I highly recommend Giuliano and Concrete Jungles Walking Tours.
