My daughter and I had a great day with our driver Hamza and guide Hamdu. The drive was comfortable and we had a few local snacks along the way. The canapy walk was fun and Hamdu took lots of photos for us while we walked the bridge. Then we saw the two castles and learned a lot about the terrrible conditions the slaves endured. It was interesting and educational. We had a local Ghana lunch too and a little time to shop. This is a must-do trip when visiting Ghana, and I highly recommend Kwame tours. We were able to arrange it only the day before too, so many thanks for accommodating us on such short notice.

Awesome trip despite the traffic due to road construction. Helpful and fun guide and driver. The castles are a must see for the historical significance with slave trafficking - never again. And Kakum Canopy Walk is amazing.

This tour exceeded our expectations. Our guides (Hamza and Hamdou .. sp?) were personable and patient. They purchased for us street snacks when we asked to stop. Conversation on the way was interesting and we learned a lot. Saturday is an important day for gatherings outside the city so consider this if you do your tour on that day. This will add to your drive time. The van was comfortable with good suspension to tackle the challenging roads. The castles are a heavy emotional experience but if you are going to Ghana for history you cannot miss this piece of it. Through those places passed the people whose forced labor built so much of the "new world." Many entered without leaving alive. They deserve a visit. You should go and Kwame Tours can take you!

The trip was very lengthy and took longer than expected but the view into the local region and its history was awesome.

Hamza and Hamdu were wonderful. They explained everything along the way and even helped us sample food from roadside sellers. Hamza was a careful driver, which is very important for this journey. They were both friendly and courteous during our long day together (14 hours). They kept us informed about the logistics of this tour and the history of Ghana. We really couldn’t have asked for better guides.

Gershon was a great tour guide - very accommodating and knowledgeable. The castle tours were informative, and the visit to Kakum was a big highlight of our whole trip to Ghana.

Location- 4 stars : the Castles are well worth visiting. The history they represent is part of the world’s modern history with echoes that persist today. The locations themselves require updating. This isn’t the issue of the tour operators but of whichever entities are responsible for the upkeep and preservation of these sites. Half of the trip to the coast, there is no road- there is a deeply rutted dirt path where all kinds of vehicles and pedestrians play chicken with each other and drag race at moderate speed. Watching the road was so stressful, I closed my eyes for most of the trip. Tour- 3 stars The night before, I was notified by text that “someone else”, name provided, would be contacting me for pick up. I did indeed receive a text with a confirmed pick up time. I was picked up late but within 20 minutes of the arranged time. The driver was friendly. The vehicle was not comfortable and I was surprised we were traveling in a small car for what I’d heard was a challenging trek. I was very stiff at the day’s end. Despite the very lengthy drive to the Castle Coast, I felt rushed through the actual tours. I was encouraged to spend more time at Cape Castle than Elmina; and when en route to Cape Castle from Elmina I was encouraged to finish touring within 30 minutes. I paid a lot for the tour so didn’t expect to be in a rush. My guide picked up some very, very, very expensive local food to eat and then encouraged that we eat in the car on the way back to Cantonments. I was unwilling to eat on that 4-hour rollercoaster ride in a very small space. Manage your expectations for this excursion - it’s a very long and uncomfortable journey to see a very meaningful site that hasn’t been as well maintained as it deserves. How you get there makes a difference; especially if one opts to do this as a day trip from the more metropolitan areas of Accra.

Our two guides - Hamza and Hamdu - did everything they could to make us feel comfortable and safe. It was a lot of driving, but well worth the trip. Be prepared for a bumpy road, but with a skilled and safe driver. In total we were out for more than 12 hours, so plan your day accordingly!

Hamza and Hamdu were incredible. They were friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and very accommodating. We were in excellent hands in each leg of what was a very long day of exploration. I couldn't have asked for better guides and friends.
