After a brief 30-minute hike to the entrance of the cave, inner tubes are used to float along the Caves Branch River. See your light flicker upon strange shapes and the ultimate darkness beyond. Hear the echo of your own voice bounce off the distant walls. Listen to the water dripping from the ceiling, creating spectacular formations in the stunning chambers. While you might be expecting dark and claustrophobic passageways, you are likely to find enormous chambers and cathedral-sized rooms. Journey into Belize’s spectacular underground realm and take a trip back. From the very beginning of ancient Maya culture, caves played a major role in forming this civilization’s distinctive worldview. In addition to their use as a water supply source, storage area, and dump, the Mayan caves were considered to be a supernatural realm, the home of deities and ancestors. Vapor clouds forming at the mouth of caves suggested to the Maya that these formations were inhabited by the gods of nature-the source of rain, thunder, and lightning.

Dorian and his crew provided transportation, guide, lunch, and tickets to the River of Caves tube float and the Belize zoo. They picked us up at our hotel in Belize City right on time and managed to get us to the river float before the cruise ship hords arrived (3? in port same day due to hurricane-forced rerouting of many cruises). The knowledgeable guide, Earl, stopped at a nice, clean little country restaurant for a traditional Belizean lunch before getting us to the zoo where he personally guided us through. Returning to the hotel was a “piece of cake” and we were back mid-afternoon in time for a lounge by the pool. Very recommended.

This was the best of best tours. Our guide was great. His name was G. We saw beautiful sights in the cave, a tarantula on the way to the cave named Nancy, bats in the caves. G tied our tubes together and pulled us through the caves and later in the river. The water was very refreshing and not cold at all. This was a great lazy day.
