Our stable is where your tour experience will begin and end. After checking in you can say hi to our draft horses, watch an educational video, purchases a bottle of water, or use our restroom. As you board your carriage via our inclined ramp / easy loading platform, your certified tour guide will greet you.
Charleston City Market
After leaving our stable, your carriage will stop at the City gate near the Market, where a route is assigned by the City of Charleston. Our industry is governed by this system in order to disperse the carriage traffic more evenly throughout the city. Your tour will cover about 30 blocks and 300+ years of history. Though specific landmarks vary by route, all tours pass by sights that give Charleston its unique charm – custom wrought iron gates, well-manicured gardens, historic mansions with picturesque piazzas, and the many church steeples of the “Holy City.”

Our guide, Zach was funny and gave a great tour. We learned so much about life in Charleston - both historic and current happenings. Walter, our horse was the best - such a pretty boy and so sweet. Highly recommend this tour company. Our Uber driver commented that she knows the owner and they take such good care of their horses.

The guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. I have been to Charleston several times and always take a carriage tour with Old South. Each time, I learn something new.

This company does not disappoint. Even though we had the same tour route as we did two years ago, the information and experience was fantastic - led my Emerson and his partner Ace. His knowledge and Ace’s gentle demeanor made the hour memorable. I know there are several companies that do this but you owe yourself trying South Carriage at least once.

Maddie and Cooper were a great team! Loved our tour! Maddie was a wealth of knowledge and Cooper brought the pizzazz! Highly recommend! I came with a girlfriend. But I’ll definitely be back with my husband and kiddos.

Carol was very knowledgeable and Bob the horse was obedient and fabulous. It would be nicer if we could be made aware of tour options snd pick where we go. Overall a great experience!

We had a great time! It was fun and educational and everyone was comfortable and enjoyed the tour including the expectant mother and the great-grandmother. It was a beautiful, but cold day and we were very thankful we could bring our warm blankets.

The staff was courteous and attentive to children. They answered questions of adults and children. Explained things in a way my five year old found interesting and the horses are well taken care of which was my daughter’s main concern.

Informative, entertaining and fun. A great tour of downtown Charleston and for someone who has lived here for over 30 years it taught me a lot about this wonderful city.
