Borgo Storico di Manarola
Built in the valley of the torrente Groppo, until 1950 the stream which runs through the town was completely uncovered and 11 stone bridges allowed the people to cross from one side to the other. Over the next thirty years the stream was gradually covered over. The ancient village was destroyed by Saracen pirates (in 849) and the surviving people fled in land to live. When the seas were made safe again in the 11th century, people came back to settle here under the protection of the Republic of Genova. By the 1200's cultivation of vines was not only established but the wine they produced was sought after. The church of San Lorenzo was begun in 1338. The patron saint is celebrated on the 10th of August with a procession through the streets carrying a statue of him. The castle which protected the town from pirates is now a private home, you can see the garden from the panoramic walk, it is on the rock immediately above the port. Manarola is now famous for its Christmas nativity scene which is the biggest in the world. Figures outlined in thousands of lights cover the hillside. Also an Easter scene is made.

This was by far one of the best excursions my family and I booked during our recent trip to Italy. Going to Cinque Terre has been on my bucket list for awhile and I am so happy that I was finally able to go after all of these years. First off, I just want to say this tour company and most importantly our tour guide, Ado, was AMAZING. He was charismatic, knowledgeable, and very engaging with the tour group. He was also very supportive and helpful in making sure my two boys, 9 and 11 years old, were able to get through and finish the hike from the town of Corniglia to Vernazza. If you can do the hike, I would highly suggest to do it because you will be rewarded with the most beautiful views. With that said, don't hesitate and book this tour. You won't regret it.

Long and packed tour visiting the 5 cities by train and returning to the bus by boat. You will climb about 400 steps to get to 1 city and have the option to get to another city by hike. Hike was not easy w significant climbs and uneven rock laden trail. Wear a swimsuit under to easily take a swim in the sea during free periods. UNESCO Cinque Terre is gorgeous and unique. I give our guides Christian and Ado a lot of credit for fielding and informing our large group. They were organized, informative, respectful and entertaining.

Chris and Ado were exceptional guides. Very beautiful and very well organized tour. Long day, but very well worth it. We went with kids and they both loved it. Exhausting but enjoyable. Chris and Ado did an excellent job in not only organizing but also curating to everyone's request and needs. Thank you for an incredible and not forgettable trip.

We only used the transport portion of the trip but Oda(sp?) And Jerry were great. On the ride to Cinque terre they gave good information about the towns and places we passed. Gave me specific information I needed about pickup location and time. Helped with directions and train tickets. Friendly and fun.
